{"id":42814,"date":"2025-04-23T03:42:08","date_gmt":"2025-04-23T03:42:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/42814\/"},"modified":"2025-04-23T03:42:08","modified_gmt":"2025-04-23T03:42:08","slug":"heres-what-happened-in-crypto-today-btc-gold-xrp-more","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/42814\/","title":{"rendered":"Here\u2019s what happened in crypto today &#8211; BTC, gold, XRP, &#038; more"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BTC briefly decoupled from the U.S. stocks amid Fed-Trump tension.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Paul Atkins was sworn in as the 34th SEC chairman.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/category\/bitcoin-news\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">Bitcoin\u2019s [BTC]<\/a> outperformance against the U.S. equities was among the top crypto headlines. <\/p>\n<p>Since the declaration of \u2018Liberation Day\u2019 tariffs in early April, the king coin performance has been subdued, similar to risk-on U.S. stocks.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Crypto-Today-Bitcoin.png\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-484994\" class=\"size-full wp-image-484994\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Crypto-Today-Bitcoin.png\" alt=\"Crypto Today\" width=\"680\" height=\"680\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-484994\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: Bitwise<\/p>\n<p>However, BTC extended its rally to an April high of $88.8K just before Tuesday\u2019s U.S. market trading session opened. <\/p>\n<p>Gold also tapped a record high of $3.5K per ounce, a move analysts noted as a flight to \u2018safe haven\u2019 amid President Donald Trump\u2019s threats to Fed independence.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Crypto trading firm QCP Capital said,\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe move underscores a broader flight from U.S. equities, Treasuries and the dollar, as concerns around Federal Reserve independence escalate.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Trump slammed the Fed chair Jerome Powell for being \u2018too late\u2019 to cut interest rates and threatened to oust him before his term ends next year. <\/p>\n<p>Market reaction to Trump has been swift and negative for the US dollar, and stocks but BTC and gold soared.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Circle rivals SWIFT, Atkins sworn in<\/p>\n<p>Stablecoin giant Circle unveiled a new cross-border payment network (CPN) to rival SWIFT, Mastercard, and even Ripple.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>So, what does the solution aim to solve? Current platforms like SWIFT can take up to three days and incur 6% fees on the transferable amount. Circle stated,\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cWith CPN, banks and payment providers can move money at internet-speed using fully reserved digital dollars and euros.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>For his part, Nic Carter, partner at Castle Island and former Fidelity crypto analyst, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/nic__carter\/status\/1914497832901345424\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow external noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">noted<\/a> that the move would be an \u2018equivalent of SWIFT.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It remains to be seen how competition with Ripple, whose business model also hinges on cross-border payments, will play out.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Still on Ripple, XRP could face another regulatory hiccup following a recent Oregon Attorney General (AG) complaint against Coinbase. <\/p>\n<p>The suit claimed that XRP, <a href=\"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/category\/solana-news\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Solana [SOL]<\/a> and 29 other tokens have been traded on the platform as unregistered \u2018crypto securities.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>However, Coinbase slammed the complaint for several omissions, including Judge Analisa Torres\u2019 decision on XRP that only sales to institutional investors amounted to a \u2018security.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Finally, on Monday, pro-crypto Paul Atkins was sworn in as the 34th SEC chairman.
