{"id":428763,"date":"2025-09-16T11:32:13","date_gmt":"2025-09-16T11:32:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/428763\/"},"modified":"2025-09-16T11:32:13","modified_gmt":"2025-09-16T11:32:13","slug":"top-us-senator-warns-hungary-and-slovakia-over-russian-energy-purchases-politico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/428763\/","title":{"rendered":"Top US senator warns Hungary and Slovakia over Russian energy purchases \u2013 POLITICO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cI hope and expect them to step up to the plate soon to help us end this bloodbath,\u201d he said. \u201cIf not, consequences should and will follow.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Prior to the Kremlin\u2019s all-out assault on Ukraine in February 2022, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/quit-russian-oil-for-eu-trump-other-demands-even-harder\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bloc as a whole imported 45 percent<\/a> of its natural gas and 27 percent of its crude oil from Russia.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, that number\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.consilium.europa.eu\/en\/infographics\/where-does-the-eu-s-gas-come-from\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dropped to 19 percent<\/a>\u00a0for gas and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.europarl.europa.eu\/thinktank\/en\/document\/EPRS_BRI(2025)775863\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">3 percent<\/a>\u00a0for oil, after the European Commission banned imports by sea.
