He reportedly resided in an apartment on Wardsborough Road in the city.<\/p>\n

Emergency services were alerted to the apartment complex around 1am, and Mr Furfey was taken to the hospital with critical injuries, where he later died.<\/p>\n

Two people have been arrested, with police confirming they remain in custody.<\/p>\n

PSNI Detective Inspector Jill Angus said: \u201cMy thoughts are with Barry\u2019s family, who are left to try to come to terms with their devastating loss.\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued: \u201cTwo people \u2013 a 37-year-old man and 38-year-old woman \u2013 arrested yesterday, 15 September, remain in custody at this time.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur enquiries are continuing, and I am keen to take the opportunity to reiterate my appeal to anyone with information to contact detectives on 101. Please quote reference number 29 of 15\/09\/25.\u201d<\/p>\n

Local Sinn F\u00e9in councillor Declan Lynch said that as the murder happened \u201cin the heart of Lisburn\u201d, the entire community is in shock. <\/p>\n

He urged people not to spectate, and instead allow for police to \u201cconduct their investigations to come to a proper conclusion\u201d. <\/p>\n

Mr Lynch also said his thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased. <\/p>\n

Alliance Party councillor Nicola Parker said the community had been left in shock.<\/p>\n

“I am deeply saddened to learn about this horrifying incident, and my sympathies go out to the family and loved ones of the victim during this incredibly difficult time,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis tragic incident has left many residents in the community feeling shocked and distressed, but I am confident they will unite during this challenging time.<\/p>\n

“The PSNI now need space to carry out their investigations but I would appeal to anyone who may have information that could assist, to please contact police.\u201d<\/p>\n

Previously, the PSNI\u2019s Ms Angus said: \u201cPolice received a call for assistance from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service just before 1am on Monday morning, September 15, at a property in the Wardsborough Road area of the city.<\/p>\n

“Officers attended, and a man, aged 42, was located at the property with serious injuries.<\/p>\n

“Medical treatment was provided at the scene \u2013 before he was transferred onward to hospital.<\/p>\n

“Sadly, the man then passed away this morning due to the extent of his injuries.<\/p>\n

“A 38-year-old woman and 37-year-old man have both been arrested on suspicion of murder, and remain in custody at this time, assisting detectives with their enquiries.<\/p>\n

“The local community can expect to see an increased police presence in the Wardsborough area as officers conduct further enquiries into what happened \u2013 cordons also remain in place.<\/p>\n
