At a meeting today, Monday, September 16, Coun Pritchard asked council leader Coun John Cotton whether it was right the negotiations continued without the name of the preferred developer or details of the deal being shared with the community.<\/p>\n
Coun Cotton said the authority had to follow statutory procurement rules, which included restrictions on the naming of the preferred developer. \u201cMy understanding is that information will be shared with residents in January,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Coun Pritchard responded: \u201cMy question was does he think it\u2019s right \u2013 not does he think it\u2019s legal.\u201d He asked that council officers looked into whether the preferred developer could be named to ensure \u201ctransparency\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe can debate procurement rules but what is important is this council complies with the law,\u201d Coun Cotton said.<\/p>\n
He called the Druids Heath project \u201clong-anticipated and needed by residents\u201d and said there had been \u201cexcessive engagement\u201d with members of the community, adding Coun Pritchard would be briefed in the future.<\/p>\n
\u2018We understand residents\u2019 concerns\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\nEarlier this year, Coun Jayne Francis, former cabinet member for housing and homelessness, said the regeneration of Druids Heath would \u201cprovide much-needed, new affordable homes\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor two years we have been working with the community in Druids Heath to develop a plan to regenerate the area, one that meets the needs of the people who live and work there,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Coun Francis said she understood residents\u2019 concerns about being priced out of the area.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor this reason, the council is looking at how we can use different financial models to give residents an opportunity to remain on the estate,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will let residents know more about these models as soon as we are able.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is really important to the council that everyone who wants to stay in Druids Heath can do so.\u201d<\/p>\n
A report from the council, published ahead of a cabinet meeting this month, said the procurement process to find a developer started in May.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe procurement procedure has now completed and a preferred developer (Developer A) has been identified,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe next stage of this procurement is to enter into detailed discussions with the preferred developer to finalise the contractual agreements to allow for the commencement of the scheme.\u201d<\/p>\n
The council said the award of the strategic partnership agreement for the delivery of the scheme could be approved by cabinet members in early 2026.<\/p>\n
