French dairy giant Lactalis is to invest \u20ac1bn ($1.18bn) into \u201cmodernising\u201d its domestic manufacturing sites.<\/p>\n
The company has set out a programme until 2030 to \u201cmodernise and improve the performance\u201d of its facilities in France.<\/p>\n

Lactalis, the world\u2019s largest dairy company, has 69 dairies across France and markets around 6,000 SKUs in the country.<\/p>\n The Lactel and Pr\u00e9sident brands owner said its investment would focus on developing production equipment, innovation and decarbonisation.<\/p>\n The group has lined up projects including the expansion of its Petit Basque cheese production plants in Larceveau and new production lines at sites in Bouvron and Bayeux.<\/p>\n Lactalis said the French dairy market remained \u201cin flux\u201d, impacted by environmental \u201cconstraints\u201d and international competition.<\/p>\n Without providing specific details, the company said it had grown its sales volumes in France by 1.4% in the first of the year \u201coutperforming the national market in certain categories\u201d.<\/p>\n It pointed to its cheese business, where sales had been supported by demand for its products for use in hot dishes.<\/p>\n The group added its Lactel brand \u201ccontinues to gain market share\u201d in a declining milk category in part due to \u201cthe strong performance\u201d of the new Vita\u2019 Vie product.<\/p>\n In April, the privately owned group published its financial results for 2024.<\/p>\n Last year, Lactalis\u2019s revenue grew by 2.8% \u201cexceeding \u20ac30bn for the first time\u201d.<\/p>\n Operating income rose by 4.3% although the company\u2019s net income fell from \u20ac428m to \u20ac359m.<\/p>\n \n Sign up for our daily news round-up!
