It was said to have provided the backdrop for parts of Dragonstone\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>With its craggy coastlines, soaring mountains and ancient castles, Wales is the perfect backdrop for numerous stories, and it&#8217;s caught the attention of streaming giants(Image: Paula Hanks-Jones)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Wales has been a thriving hub for filming locations for decades.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">In the past, our country has been used by the likes of Gavin &amp; Stacey, Doctor Who, Torchwood, A Discovery of Witches and more. More recently the Netflix action flick, Havoc<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/whats-on\/film-news\/netflixs-havoc-filming-locations-tom-31481188\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\"> starring English actor Tom Hard<\/a>y saw the capital transformed into gritty New York, following in the footsteps of big blockbusters like The Dark Knight Rises and Wonder Woman who&#8217;ve utilised our natural waterfalls for epic scenes &#8211; <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/whats-on\/travel\/beautiful-welsh-waterfall-walks-appeared-32441965\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">read more on that, here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">2025 has been no different with filming for TV and film taking place all over Wales including productions for Channel 4, BBC and HBO. The <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/bbc\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"BBCLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">BBC<\/a> confirmed that filming for the crime drama starring Timothy Spall and Gwyneth Keyworth <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/lifestyle\/tv\/bbcs-welsh-filmed-death-valley-32362442\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">began at the end of August this year<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">There were a few locations which kept cropping up throughout the first series, which included the gorgeous cottage of John Chapel (Timothy Spall), known for its beautiful stonework and flowers everywhere. This property was located in St Hilary in the Vale of Glamorgan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">And the caf\u00e9 where Timothy Spall enjoys a good macchiato was actually Br\u00f8d Bakery in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/penarth\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Penarth<\/a>. The Danish bakery chain has a few shops across Cardiff too. With filming for the second series underway, actor Timothy Spall was spotted outside the Penarth branch of the bakery in September.<\/p>\n<p>House of the Dragon (series three)<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/0_AFRDPW050625BattleCamp.jpg\" alt=\"Battle camp outside the walls of Harrenhal Castle\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Battle camp outside the walls of Harrenhal Castle(Image: HBO)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Several locations in northwest Wales have been used as <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/lifestyle\/tv\/six-locations-north-wales-rumoured-31795174\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">filming sites for the popular HBO series<\/a> House of the Dragon. Some were used in summer 2023, but it was confirmed in June this year that others were earmarked for season three of the epic fantasy series.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">During the summer, three large sets were taking shape at Dinorwig Quarry near Llanberis, which in season two served as a backdrop for the series&#8217; Harrenhal Castle &#8211; the largest fortification in Westeros. North Wales Live reported that props were being assembled to suggest the aftermath of a visit by a fire-breathing dragon to the Harrenhal battle camp in the Riverlands.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Natural Resources Wales (NRW) also hinted of more filming at Traeth Llanddwyn and Newborough Forest in southwest <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailypost.co.uk\/all-about\/anglesey\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Anglesey<\/a>, where some trees were being felled. And according to a source close to the production team, film crews were also expected to return to Penmon in south west Anglesey.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Other filming locations are in Eryri, including Cwm Idwal and its iconic lake in the Ogwen Valley in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/gwynedd\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Gwynedd<\/a>. Two sites near Capel Curig in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/conwy\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Conwy<\/a> were also scouted, and the seventh site in Nant Peris at the foot of Yr Wyddfa was reportedly used as the production team&#8217;s base.<\/p>\n<p>Deadpoint<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/0_Yr-Wyddfa-Snowdon-sunrise.jpg\" alt=\"Clear sky sunrise on the summit of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon)\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>The series has began filming in Eryri National Park(Image: Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Described as a <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/lifestyle\/tv\/netflixs-baby-reindeer-creators-nerve-32441902\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;nerve-shredding action thriller&#8221;<\/a>, Deadpoint follows a group of Welsh climbers who encounter a far-right faction plotting a violent act in their local mountains, which is being set amongst the Eryri National Park. Filming for the five-part series began this month and is produced by the multi-BAFTA and Emmy award-winning Clerkenwell Films, who are behind huge shows including <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/lifestyle\/tv\/baby-reindeer-real-people-behind-29079991\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Baby Reindeer,<\/a> The End of the F***ing World and Misfits.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Rhondda-born actor <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/lifestyle\/tv\/who-callum-scott-howells-welsh-25866397\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Callum Scott Howells <\/a>(It&#8217;s a Sin), Showtrial&#8217;s Michael Socha, Annes Elwy and Emmy-nominated Christine Tremarco (Adolescence) are the actors leading the project. It&#8217;ll be shown on Channel 4, which has billed the wilderness-set thriller as &#8220;a literal cliffhanger, grounded in the tensions existing in our society today.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Industry (series four)<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/2_Industry-BBC-Harper-Stern.jpg\" alt=\"Harper Stern on BBC drama  Industry \" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Industry starring Myha&#8217;la as the character Harper Stern is filmed in and around Cardiff(Image: HBO\/BBC)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The successful series, produced by Cardiff&#8217;s Bad Wolf, is returning for its fourth series. The drama follows a group of young bankers as they navigate the high-end financial industry and all that comes with it, such as a pressures work environment, active social life, drugs, sex and social politics.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The series includes returning actors such as Marisa Abela, Myha&#8217;la and Ken Leung. But the newest chapter will see Stranger Things&#8217; Charlie Heaton, Netflix&#8217;s Sabrina, Kiernan Shipka, Ted Lasso&#8217;s Toheeb Jimoh and Kal Penn of Harold &amp; Kumar and Desingated Survivor, star.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The series has been filming in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/cardiff\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Cardiff<\/a> and is expected to be released in summer 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Here are two more productions for Channel 4 and Film4 which are due out soonH is for Hawk<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/1_TJ_MAI_031224_PONTCANNA_04.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Filming for H is for Hawk took place on the streets of Pontcanna in Cardiff(Image: Taite Johnson)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">H is for Hawk is a screen adaptation of Helen MacDonald&#8217;s 2024 memoir of the same name and is backed by Film4. It tells the true story of the author&#8217;s life after the tragic loss of her father and the unlikely friendship she forms with one of earth&#8217;s most dangerous predators &#8211; the Goshawk.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Filming in various parts of Wales, including <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/whats-on\/whats-on-news\/angry-residents-told-cars-clamped-30507178\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">the Pontcanna area of Cardiff<\/a>, took place in late 2024 into early 2025. The film stars The Crown&#8217;s Claire Foy and The Banshees of Inisherin star Brendan Gleeson and has received its premier at the Telluride Film Festival. More information on its wider release will be published soon.<\/p>\n<p>Falling<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/0_Falling.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Anna (Keeley Hawes) and David (Paapa Essiedu) in the upcoming series Falling(Image: Robert Viglasky \/ Channel 4)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The new six-part drama, produced for Channel 4, follows the dramatic story of a nun named &#8216;Anna&#8217;, played by Bodyguard star Keeley Hawes, as she falls in love with a Catholic priest named &#8216;David&#8217;, played by Paapa Essiedu from I May Destroy You fame. When they fall in love they must make a difficult decision, choosing between their emotions and their beliefs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">For some part of production, Falling was filmed in Cardiff before it was moved to Bristol.
