{"id":429626,"date":"2025-09-16T20:06:17","date_gmt":"2025-09-16T20:06:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/429626\/"},"modified":"2025-09-16T20:06:17","modified_gmt":"2025-09-16T20:06:17","slug":"santander-owned-openbank-debuts-crypto-trading-in-germany","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/429626\/","title":{"rendered":"Santander-Owned Openbank Debuts Crypto Trading in Germany"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Openbank customers in Germany can buy, sell or hold <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/bitcoin.org\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bitcoin<\/a>, <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ether.fi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ether<\/a>, <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/litecoin.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Litecoin<\/a>, <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/polygon.technology\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Polygon<\/a> and <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/cardano.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cardano<\/a> together with their other investments, according to a Tuesday (Sept. 16) <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.santander.com\/en\/press-room\/press-releases\/2025\/09\/openbank-launches-cryptocurrency-trading-service\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">press release<\/a>. The service will launch in Spain in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Customers do not need to transfer money to any other platform, the release said. The <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/cryptocurrency\/2025\/making-sense-european-union-mica-regulation-impact-across-crypto-markets\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">European Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation<\/a> (MiCA) provides investor protection.<\/p>\n<p>In the months to come, Openbank will expand its portfolio of available crypto and offer new functionalities like conversion between different cryptocurrencies, according to the release.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy incorporating the main cryptocurrencies into our investment platform, we are responding to the demand of some of our customers and continue to strengthen a broad range of products and services through an agile, simple technology platform backed by one of the world\u2019s leading financial groups,\u201d Santander Head of Crypto <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/cotymonteverde\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Coty de Monteverde<\/a> said in the release.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement followed a report from May that Santander was considering offering a <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/cryptocurrency\/2025\/report-santanders-openbank-applies-for-licenses-to-offer-crypto-services\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stablecoin<\/a> and providing its digital bank\u2019s retail clients with crypto access. Rival <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbva.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BBVA<\/a> said in March that it would begin offering crypto services after getting approval from Spain\u2019s regulator.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">Advertisement: Scroll to Continue<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/credit-unions\/2025\/community-banks-must-reimagine-business-model-amid-stablecoin-threat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stablecoins<\/a> present challenges to regional lenders and credit unions in the form of deposit flight, PYMNTS reported Thursday (Sept. 11).<\/p>\n<p>The problem facing lenders is being exacerbated by a shift in federal policy.
