Ruben Amorim has been told that he would have been a \u201cperfect fit\u201d for Chelsea<\/a> as his Manchester United<\/a> career threatens to fall apart. The Red Devils appointed the Portuguese coach as Erik ten Hag\u2019s successor <\/a>midway through last season.<\/p>\n But his time at Old Trafford<\/a> has so far been a nightmare. He has won just 17 of his 47 matches in all competitions – just eight of those successes coming in the Premier League<\/a>.<\/p>\n Amorim\u2019s side have also endured a woeful start to the new season, leading to suggestions that he could be moved on. And now Paul Merson<\/a> has told Amorim that he would have been a better fit for Chelsea than Man United due to his style of play.<\/p>\n Speaking on Sky Sports, the Arsenal icon said: “Ruben Amorim, the way he wants to play, is a worry. He won’t change. He’ll look at it and say ‘I’ve got where I am today by playing the way I play’, using three at the back and high wing-backs.<\/p>\n “He would have been a perfect fit for Chelsea. They’ve got world class wing-backs in Reece James and Malo Gusto.<\/p>\n “They’ve got the best holding midfield player in the league in Moises Caicedo. It would fit the players.<\/p>\n “You look at Man Utd and this system does not suit the squad they’ve got at all. The two wing-backs are nowhere near good enough.<\/p>\n “And they are a big part of this formation working. No legs in midfield. Everything is up against him.”<\/p>\n Amorim retains the faith of the United hierarchy for now<\/a> but that stance could change should the Red Devils\u2019 rotten form continue. Asked if he fears for his position after the weekend\u2019s defeat to Manchester City<\/a>, the Portuguese said: “Guys, I understand that and I accept.<\/p>\n “It is not a record you should have in Manchester United. There are a lot of things – you have no idea what happened during these months – but I accept that. I am not going to change.<\/p>\n “When I want to change my philosophy, I will change. If not, you have to change the man. We will talk about that every game that we lose. I don’t believe in that, in the system, or whatever. I believe in my way and I am going to play my way until I want to change.<\/p>\n “My message is that I am going to give everything. I will do everything, always thinking about what is best for the club. That was always the same message.<\/p>\n “It is not my decision, the rest (on whether United change manager). Until I am here, I will do my best. I really want to win games.
