Tottenham Hotspur midfielder James Maddison has taken aim at Manchester United’s <\/a>Europa League heartbreak in Bilbao last May.<\/p>\n

Spurs maintained their strong start under Thomas Frank on Tuesday night, securing a 1-0 victory over Villarreal in the Champions League<\/a>. The only goal came from an own goal by Luiz Junior in the fourth minute, in a game that saw little offensive action.<\/p>\n

Maddison<\/a> is anticipated to be out of action until 2026 following an anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained during pre-season. Along with Dejan Kulusevski and Radu Dragusin, the former Leicester City star regularly attends Spurs home matches to cheer on his teammates, and Tuesday night was no exception.<\/p>\n

Prior to the match against Villarreal, he took part in EA Sports’ First Gameplay Livestream event in London. Joining gaming community figures such as Angry Ginge, Behzinga and Niko Omilana, Maddison helped to promote the forthcoming version of the game and teamed up with Adebayo Akinfenwa during the stream, reports Football London<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He also took part in EA Sports’ further gameplay stream before mingling with a number of streamers at the event who had been invited to play the game early. As he left the event to head to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to watch the Spurs in action, the 28-year-old couldn’t resist a playful dig at United.<\/p>\n

Spurs secured victory over United in the Europa League final back in May<\/a>, earning their place in this season’s Champions League. Despite finishing 17th in the Premier League<\/a> last season, two places below United, Spurs are mixing it at the top of the league at this early stage of the campaign under new boss Frank.<\/p>\n

As he bid farewell to Angry Ginge, a United supporter, Maddison remarked: “I’ve got to get to the game. I’ve got to get to the Champions League game.”<\/p>\n

Ginge, whose real name is Morgan Burtwhistle, responded: “Oh, Champions League?”<\/p>\n

Maddison then delivered a cheeky dig at Tottenham’s expense regarding United, declaring: “The competition we qualified for by beating you,” before departing with a chuckle.<\/p>\n
