{"id":431174,"date":"2025-09-17T12:44:11","date_gmt":"2025-09-17T12:44:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/431174\/"},"modified":"2025-09-17T12:44:11","modified_gmt":"2025-09-17T12:44:11","slug":"brothel-keeping-arrests-made-as-police-raid-nine-properties-in-edinburgh-and-east-lothian","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/431174\/","title":{"rendered":"Brothel keeping arrests made as police raid nine properties in Edinburgh and East Lothian"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>A number of arrests have been made in connection with brothel keeping after police raided nine properties across Edinburgh and East Lothian.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Two people have been arrested and seven people safeguarded following raids in the Cannongate, Tollcross, Leith, Broughton, Dalry, and Chesser areas of Edinburgh on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>A raid was also conducted in the Prestonpans area of East Lothian.<\/p>\n<p>A 46-year-old man and a 70-year-old woman were arrested as part of the investigation.<\/p>\n<p>A 36-year-old woman was also arrested in connection with drug offences.<\/p>\n<p>All three have since been released, pending further enquiries.<\/p>\n<p>Six women and one man, all foreign nationals, were provided with safeguarding advice and support by specialist officers.<\/p>\n<p>A four-figure sum of cash was also recovered along with small quantities of cocaine and cannabis, and evidence linking the addresses to prostitution.<\/p>\n<p>Detective chief inspector Jonny Wright said: \u201cProstitution brings a significant threat of risk and harm to people and communities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur approach focuses on the safety and welfare of those involved and in identifying either individual perpetrators or crime gangs who pose a threat.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe work closely with our local and national partners to engage with people and signpost them to available support, hopefully reducing the risk of violence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is about safer communities and supported victims, while building trust and confidence in policing.
