A building in Liverpool city centre was declared unsafe after a part of it fell onto the pavement below. Emergency services were called to the building on the corner of Bold Street and Berry Street<\/a> at 10.45am on Wednesday, September 17, after being alerted to issues with the structure.<\/p>\n

The four-storey building, appearing to be that which houses restaurant Mee Japanese & Thai Street Food on its ground floor, showed signs of “loose rendering”, according to Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service<\/a>. A piece of that rendering, around a metre in length, had fallen onto the pavement below.<\/p>\n

The pavement was closed and a cordon was put in place. Merseyside Police<\/a> assisted with traffic management and Arriva North West stated on X (formerly Twitter<\/a>) that the 82 bus route was diverted temporarily.<\/p>\n

A Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson added: “A structural engineer was requested, and Liverpool City Council was informed, with Merseyside Police assisting with traffic management.<\/p>\n

“Crews liaised with the restaurant manager of the premises situated to the ground floor of the building, before contacting the landlord.<\/p>\n

“Following a meeting between police and fire at scene, it was determined that road closures would not be needed at that moment in time, the cordon was also reinforced.<\/p>\n

“A building surveyor attended shortly after, and following consultation with police, deemed the building unsafe, requesting a team to attend to carry out remedial work to make the affected area safe.<\/p>\n

“Police are remaining at scene to manage the cordon. An external handover was then completed and firefighters left scene at 1.06pm.”<\/p>\n

Sharing a photograph of the scene on X, Liverpool history account Liverpool1207 described it as a “Another near miss for pedestrians.”<\/p>\n

The ECHO<\/a> has approached Liverpool City Council for comment.<\/p>\n
