With 106.4 offences per 1,000 people, it has one of\u00a0the highest crime rates in Britain, and if you\u2019re anywhere near the city centre, make sure you\u2019re <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/london\/news\/a-new-interactive-map-shows-where-you-are-most-likely-to-get-your-phone-stolen-in-london-050225\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">clinging to your phone for dear life<\/a>.\u00a0Despite that, new research has found that the capital city\u00a0is home to both the safest places in the UK and the least safe.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Security training platform <a href=\"https:\/\/www.get-licensed.co.uk\/reports\/city-safety-index?\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Get Licensed<\/a> has ranked the UK\u2019s local authorities according to how safe they are. It\u00a0measured safety according to\u00a0factors like crime rate per 1,000 people, year-on-year change in crime severity, reoffending\u00a0rates, the number of CCTV cameras in public spaces and the number of licensed security personnel.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s start with the good news. South London neighbourhood <strong>Sutton<\/strong> was named\u00a0London\u2019s and the UK\u2019s safest area to live, with an overall safety score of 8.09 out of 10. You can read more about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/london\/news\/the-south-london-area-that-is-officially-the-safest-place-to-live-in-britain-091525\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">why it\u2019s the country\u2019s safest place here.<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kingston-upon-Thames\u00a0<\/strong>is apparently London\u2019s second safest place to be (and the UK\u2019s third safest). Get Licensed gave it an overall score of 7.81 out of 10 and highlighted that crime in the area has gone down by nearly 10 percent year-on-year. It\u2019s annual crime rate currently sits at 67.1 offences per 1,000 people.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The nearby <strong>Richmond-upon-Thames\u00a0<\/strong>emerged as London\u2019s third safest spot with a safety score of 7.55. It has an annual crime rate of just 61.7 per 1,000 people, though it has seen a small year-on-year increase on 0.91 percent.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At the other end of the spectrum, the borough of <strong>Camden<\/strong> was declared London\u2019s (and the UK\u2019s) most dangerous place to live. It has\u00a0a crime rate more than triple that of Sutton (194.8 per 1,000 people) and was given an overall safety score of just 0.87 out of 10.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Islington<\/strong> was close behind in second place with an\u00a0annual crime rate of 140.8 offences per 1,000 people and\u00a0an overall safety score of 1.88 out of 10. Then in fourth place nationally and third in London was\u00a0<strong>Westminster.\u00a0<\/strong>The central London borough has an annual crime rate\u00a0that dwarfs\u00a0everywhere else on the list \u2013 a whopping 423.3 offences per 1,000 people.
