A girl has been shot with an airgun in a racially aggravated attack in Bristol<\/a>. <\/p>\n The victim, nine, was hit around 1.30pm in Chakeshill Drive in Brentry, a suburb about three miles north of the city centre, on September 2.<\/p>\n The offender, described as a white teenager, shot at the girl three times with pellets while saying racial slurs.<\/p>\n He was said to be around 17-18 years old, 5\u201911\u201d, with dark blonde hair, a slim face and wearing a \u2018distinctive\u2019 blue padded coat.<\/p>\n The teen was also riding a black electric scooter with white writing. <\/p>\n \t\t\t\tSign up for all of the latest stories\t\t\t<\/p>\n Start your day informed with Metro’s News Updates<\/a><\/strong> newsletter or get Breaking News<\/a> <\/strong>alerts the moment it happens. <\/p>\n A second person is believed to have been involved in the incident, the force said.<\/p>\n The girl was not seriously injured during the attack but was left sore. <\/p>\n In the weeks since, the youngster has been \u2018too frightened to leave the house\u2019, the police said, adding that she is \u2018traumatised\u2019.<\/p>\n Police officials referred the girl and her family to Stand Against Racism<\/a> and Inequality (SARI), a local anti-racism charity<\/a>. <\/p>\n Racially aggravated assaults are one of the highest reported types of hate crimes in the UK \u2013 109,823 took place in 2022, up 19% from the year before.<\/p>\n Chief Inspector Keith Smith said: \u2018This is a deeply troubling incident targeting a young child and we understand the impact this has had, not only on the victim and their family but also the wider community.<\/p>\n \u2018Officers are actively pursuing lines of enquiry and there will continue to be reassurance patrols in the area. <\/p>\n \u2018We would also like to stress that at this time we do believe this to be an isolated incident and would encourage anyone with pertinent information to come forward.\u2019<\/p>\n Get in touch with our news team by emailing us at webnews@metro.co.uk<\/a>.<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n For more stories like this, <\/strong>check our news page<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n Arrow Arrow Arrow
