{"id":433391,"date":"2025-09-18T10:21:13","date_gmt":"2025-09-18T10:21:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/433391\/"},"modified":"2025-09-18T10:21:13","modified_gmt":"2025-09-18T10:21:13","slug":"why-sheffield-wednesdays-move-for-ex-leeds-united-star-liam-cooper-collapsed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/433391\/","title":{"rendered":"Why Sheffield Wednesday&#8217;s move for ex-Leeds United star Liam Cooper collapsed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Sheffield Wednesday have missed out on a free agent deal due to their latest transfer embargoes.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Owls were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thestar.co.uk\/sport\/football\/sheffield-wednesday\/sheffield-wednesday-embargo-wage-cap-fee-restrictions-5264064\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">placed under<\/a> embargoes by the EFL in relation to non-payment of wages and transfer fees outstanding to other clubs during the summer, which had a massive impact on their recruitment.<\/p>\n<p>These were eventually lifted, allowing them to bring in Ethan Horvath and Harry Amass on loan.<\/p>\n<p>However, <a href=\"https:\/\/footballleagueworld.co.uk\/tag\/sheffield-wednesday\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wednesday<\/a> were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.efl.com\/governance\/embargoes\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">recently placed<\/a> under two new embargoes by the Football League in relation to \u2018Regulation 16.21.8 &#8211; Future Financial Information\u2019 and \u2018P&amp;S Rule 2.10.3 &#8211; Secure Funding\u2019, which surround owner Dejphon Chansiri\u2019s inability to prove the club can be funded going forward.<\/p>\n<p>After looking to have finally escaped their embargo woes, this news will come as a massive blow to the Steel City side\u2019s supporters, with the consequences it has brought on their transfer plans even more severe.<\/p>\n<p>                        Sheffield Wednesday miss out on Liam Cooper deal due to latest transfer embargoes<\/p>\n<p>                                                    <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Liam Cooper playing for Leeds United\" data-img-url=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/copy-of-1920x1080-1-22.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/copy-of-1920x1080-1-22.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The new restrictions placed upon <a href=\"https:\/\/footballleagueworld.co.uk\/tag\/sheffield-wednesday\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wednesday<\/a> will only be lifted when Chansiri can prove his ability to fund the club going forward.<\/p>\n<p>Henrik Pedersen has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yorkshirepost.co.uk\/sport\/football\/sheffield-wednesday\/henrik-pedersen-hoping-to-add-new-energy-to-sheffield-wednesday-after-latest-blow-against-swansea-city-5295481\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">been keen<\/a> to add some new faces to his squad with the EFL\u2019s approval; however the Owls\u2019 latest embargoes have scuppered those plans.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thestar.co.uk\/sport\/football\/sheffield-wednesday\/sheffield-wednesday-liam-cooper-free-agent-5322756\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">According to<\/a> the Sheffield Star, a deal for ex-Leeds United captain Liam Cooper was ready to be completed as soon as Chansiri could satisfy the EFL\u2019s concerns.<\/p>\n<p>However, their new embargoes prevent them from doing so.
