{"id":433603,"date":"2025-09-18T12:28:10","date_gmt":"2025-09-18T12:28:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/433603\/"},"modified":"2025-09-18T12:28:10","modified_gmt":"2025-09-18T12:28:10","slug":"first-channel-migrant-deported-under-uks-one-in-one-out-deal-with-france-politico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/433603\/","title":{"rendered":"First Channel migrant deported under UK\u2019s \u2018one in, one out\u2019 deal with France \u2013 POLITICO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Home Office had hoped the first deportation would happen earlier this week, but it was delayed after a High Court judge on Tuesday imposed a \u201cshort period of interim relief\u201d\u00a0on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/turbulence-for-keir-starmers-migration-deal-with-france\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">another migrant\u2019s departure<\/a> so lawyers could determine whether the person had been a victim of modern slavery.<\/p>\n<p>Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood said it was  \u201can important first step to securing our borders\u201d and  \u201csends a message to people crossing in small boats: if you enter the U.K. illegally, we will seek to remove you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mahmood said she would \u201ccontinue to challenge any last-minute, vexatious attempts to frustrate a removal in the courts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>More than 50,000 people have crossed the Channel in small boats since Labour came to power in July 2024.
