{"id":434250,"date":"2025-09-18T18:50:11","date_gmt":"2025-09-18T18:50:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/434250\/"},"modified":"2025-09-18T18:50:11","modified_gmt":"2025-09-18T18:50:11","slug":"we-encourage-the-syrian-government-to-continue-to-prioritise-womens-meaningful-participation-in-the-political-transition-and-ensure-a-representative-and-inclusive-political-process-uk-statem","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/434250\/","title":{"rendered":"We encourage the Syrian government to continue to prioritise women\u2019s meaningful participation in the political transition and ensure a representative and inclusive political process: UK statement at the UN Security Council"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Syrian government has made progress in seeking to foster genuine national\u00a0reconciliation and in laying the foundations for state institutions that work for, and<br \/>\nrepresent all of Syria.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This includes recent steps towards holding indirect elections for the People\u2019s Assembly and the efforts of the Supreme Electoral Committee to consult across Syria and guarantee at least 20% of electors are female.<\/p>\n<p>We encourage the Government to continue to prioritise women\u2019s meaningful participation in the political transition, and to use this opportunity to take further steps to ensure a representative and inclusive political process.<\/p>\n<p>We also encourage further concrete progress in the negotiations between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Syrian Government to build towards a unified and more secure\u00a0<br \/>\nSyria.<\/p>\n<p>We reiterate our call on Israel to refrain from actions that risk destabilising Syria and to\u00a0<br \/>\nrespect Syria\u2019s sovereignty and territorial integrity.<\/p>\n<p>The UK welcomes ongoing engagement between Syria and Israel.
