{"id":434386,"date":"2025-09-18T20:10:15","date_gmt":"2025-09-18T20:10:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/434386\/"},"modified":"2025-09-18T20:10:15","modified_gmt":"2025-09-18T20:10:15","slug":"frances-macron-says-europe-likely-to-reimpose-sanctions-on-iran-soon-nuclear-weapons-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/434386\/","title":{"rendered":"France\u2019s Macron says Europe likely to reimpose sanctions on Iran soon | Nuclear Weapons News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article__subhead\">In late August, France, Germany and the United Kingdom initiated a 30-day process to reimpose sanctions in the absence of a negotiated deal on Iran\u2019s nuclear programme.<\/p>\n<p>Published On 18 Sep 202518 Sep 2025<\/p>\n<p>Click here to share on social media<\/p>\n<p>share2<\/p>\n<p class=\"rich-share__social-text\">Share<\/p>\n<p>France\u2019s President Emmanuel Macron said major European nations will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/8\/13\/france-germany-and-uk-say-they-are-ready-to-reimpose-iran-sanctions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">likely reimpose<\/a> international sanctions on Iran by the end of the month.<\/p>\n<p>When asked in an interview on Israel\u2019s Channel 12 on Thursday if the so-called \u201csnapback\u201d sanctions would be triggered, Macron responded in the affirmative, claiming that Iran\u2019s efforts to avoid them were \u201cnot serious\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Recommended Stories list of 3 itemsend of list<\/p>\n<p>In late August, France, Germany and the United Kingdom \u2013 known as the E3 \u2013 initiated a 30-day process to reimpose sanctions in the absence of a negotiated deal on the Iranian nuclear programme.<\/p>\n<p>Iran has called the E3\u2019s decision \u201cunjustified, illegal and lacking any legal basis\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The three European powers accuse Iran of breaching the 2015 nuclear agreement, officially called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).<\/p>\n<p>Under the deal, which they all signed, together with the United States, China, Russia and the European Union, Tehran agreed to scale back its nuclear programme in exchange for relief from international sanctions.<\/p>\n<p>However, in 2018, during his first term in office, US President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew from the agreement and reimposed sanctions on Iran.<\/p>\n<p>Tensions over Tehran\u2019s perceived nuclear weapons ambitions escalated between the US, Iran, and Israel earlier this summer. This led to the 12-day Israeli war on Iran in June, which saw the US strike three Iranian nuclear sites.<\/p>\n<p>The three European nations, the continent\u2019s largest economies, initially committed to maintaining the 2015 accord.
