{"id":434976,"date":"2025-09-19T02:00:11","date_gmt":"2025-09-19T02:00:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/434976\/"},"modified":"2025-09-19T02:00:11","modified_gmt":"2025-09-19T02:00:11","slug":"donald-trump-says-he-didnt-want-sadiq-khan-at-state-visit-events","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/434976\/","title":{"rendered":"Donald Trump says he \u2018didn\u2019t want\u2019 Sadiq Khan at state visit events"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The US president claimed that Sir Sadiq had wanted to attend, but \u201cI asked that he not be there\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>It is the latest in a long-running war of words between Mr Trump and the Labour mayor, who accused the American leader of encouraging divisive far-right politics around the world as he landed in Britain earlier this week.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to reporters on Air Force One after his state visit, Mr Trump said: \u201cI didn\u2019t want him there, I asked that he not be there.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the Mayor of London Khan is among the worst mayors in the world, and we have some bad ones. If you look at Chicago, but I think he\u2019s the equivalent of the mayor of Chicago.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think he\u2019s done a terrible job. Crime in London is through the roof. The Mayor of London Khan, Mayor Khan has done a terrible job.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd on immigration, he\u2019s a disaster.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI asked that he not be there. He wanted to be there, as I understand, I didn\u2019t want him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He continued: \u201cI have a certain pride in London and the UK. My mother was born in Scotland, as you know.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd when I see Mayor Khan do a bad job, the stabbings and the dirt and the filth, it\u2019s not the same.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"525\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">President Trump has fanned the flames of the far-right.<\/p>\n<p>And now a toxic form of politics is spilling out onto our streets.<\/p>\n<p>These are dark times, but those who seek to divide us will not win. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/G4tb0eJP3H\">https:\/\/t.co\/G4tb0eJP3H<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan (@MayorofLondon) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MayorofLondon\/status\/1968235367196393841?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">September 17, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In response, a source close to Sir Sadiq said: \u201cTrump\u2019s politics is one of fear and division. This includes talking down our great capital city.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLondon is a global success story \u2013 it\u2019s open, dynamic and safer than major US cities.
