When Katie Holmes<\/a> puts together an outfit, she\u2019s often got a clever styling trick<\/a> up her sleeve. This time around, the trick was the sleeves.<\/p>\n

The actor was spotted in New York City on Wednesday afternoon, where she was a sight for sore eyes in a primary-colored fit that brought some technicolor to the overcast New York City streets.

Color-wise, Holmes stuck with the basics: red, yellow, and blue. But while her outfit might have seemed pretty standard upon first glance, there was really nothing basic about it.<\/p>\n

The highlight was a butter yellow Lief dress shirt<\/a> from the Anteros (which is sadly sold out). This shirt added pizzazz to Holmes\u2019s ensemble thanks to its elongated sleeves, which featured slits up the sides. Thanks to this detail, not only were Holmes\u2019s arms able to peek out, but the cuffs billowed in a beautifully dramatic flare whenever the wind caught them.<\/p>\n

Of course, while the sleeves might\u2019ve been the real showstopper, there was plenty to feast upon with the rest of the look, too. For her jeans, the Happy Hours <\/a>director<\/a> chose a set of two-tone Levi\u2019s, which came in a regular wash with a light wash trim outlining the sides and bottom hem.<\/p>\n

Finally, she completed the look with a set of candy red accessories, including a pair of bright, ballerina flats, and a Private Eye leather handbag<\/a> from M\u00e9tier.<\/p>\n

Over the years, I\u2019ve learned many things from examining Holmes\u2019s style. She loves red handbags<\/a> and quirky footwear<\/a>. She can stack with the best of \u2019em<\/a> and make a slip dress look like a ballgown<\/a>.
