She previously served as US Ambassador to the Holy See during Trump\u2019s first administration.<\/p>\n<p>The Republican-controlled Senate also approved dozens of nominations to the departments of defence, energy, labour, and the interior, as well as the US ambassadors to Argentina and Sweden.<\/p>\n<p>The mass vote has been portrayed in the US media as a significant win for the Trump administration, which has struggled to get approval for more than 100 appointees due to ongoing opposition from Democrats.<\/p>\n<p>Senate Majority Leader John Thune said the vote was possible thanks to a change in rules last week to \u201covercome Democrats\u2019 historic obstruction\u201d of the nomination process.<\/p>\n<p>Under the new rules, the Senate can now approve lower-level nominations with a simple majority, according to The Associated Press news agency.<\/p>\n<p>Previous rules remain in place for higher-level posts, including judicial and cabinet-level nominations.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Last week <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenateGOP?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@SenateGOP<\/a> took steps to overcome Democrats\u2019 historic obstruction and restored the Senate\u2019s longstanding practice of confirming nominees in batches.<\/p>\n<p>Later today the Senate will confirm a slate of 48 nominees to get <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/POTUS?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@POTUS<\/a>&#8216; team in place to enact his agenda. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/IcRmQLTz3K\">pic.twitter.com\/IcRmQLTz3K<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Leader John Thune (@LeaderJohnThune) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LeaderJohnThune\/status\/1968728464418041934?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">September 18, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Approving even non-controversial civilian nominations has become an increasingly contentious process for presidents in recent years, according to Thune, where they were once approved by near-unanimous consent or \u201cvoice vote\u201d, which was a simple measure of vocal approval.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[President Trump is] the first president on record not to have a single civilian nominee confirmed by unanimous consent or voice vote,\u201d Thune told the Senate on Thursday, accusing Democrats of \u201cdelay for delay\u2019s sake\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The fight over Trump\u2019s nominations escalated in August during a Senate recess, when the president told Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer to \u201cGO TO HELL\u201d in a post on Truth Social.
