Wightman, 31, believes having two major competitions in the UK in 2026 is an opportunity he may not get again in his career.<\/p>\n
The former Edinburgh Athletics club runner has struggled with injuries since his triumph in Eugene two years ago, but bounced back strongly in Tokyo.<\/p>\n
Now Wightman is targeting double glory on home soil next year.<\/p>\n
“We also have a European Championships in Birmingham, which I’m sure is going to be electric as well,” he said. <\/p>\n
“So there’s a lot of reasons why Brits are going to make sure we step up next year because there’s nothing quite like performing in front of a home crowd.<\/p>\n
“We had it in Birmingham in 2022, even though for us Scots it wasn’t up there, it felt like it was a home game still.<\/p>\n
“So, I hope that we can try and make the most of next year because you don’t know if we’re going to get another one like that.<\/p>\n
