{"id":435661,"date":"2025-09-19T08:45:16","date_gmt":"2025-09-19T08:45:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/435661\/"},"modified":"2025-09-19T08:45:16","modified_gmt":"2025-09-19T08:45:16","slug":"horse-racing-2025-sir-delius-prepared-to-win-the-underwood-stakes-rsn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/435661\/","title":{"rendered":"Horse Racing 2025: Sir Delius Prepared To Win The Underwood Stakes | Rsn"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"v2_larger-content\">  \u201cSir Delius is in fantastic order.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Adrian Bott<\/strong> has indicated that Melbourne Cup fancy <strong>Sir Delius<\/strong> is tracking nicely as the imported stayer prepares to race in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m) on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The four-year-old UK import impressed in his Australian debut in May, winning the Group 3 Chairman\u2019s Handicap at Doomben over 2000m on a Heavy 8 track and finished second in the Group 2 Chelmsford (1600m) two weeks ago.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Gai Waterhouse<\/strong> and Adrian Bott bay is the heavy favourite to take out Race 7 at Caulfield and Bott believes we haven\u2019t even seen his best yet.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sen.com.au\/tips\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/SSxTrack_Article_banner1.jpg\" alt=\"SSxTrack Article banner1\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cSir Delius is in fantastic order,\u201d Bott told SENTrack and RSN\u2019s Giddy Up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thought it was an excellent first-up run from him, he\u2019s come through that in really good shape.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s had a bit of time to get down to our Melbourne stable in Flemington and settled in really well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, he just seems in incredible shape going into Saturday\u2019s race.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s pretty versatile, he\u2019s shown both tactical and cruising speed. He does have a bit of class in how he can accelerate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe haven\u2019t seen him over his best trip yet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite all the promising signs surrounding the Melbourne Cup fancy, Bott admitted both him and Waterhouse are still learning about their import.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll still learn more about him come Saturday,\u201d Bott revealed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s having a short turn around between runs which obviously isn\u2019t your traditional European campaign which they\u2019re used to.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast prep he only had the one run for us.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are learning more about the horse but from what we\u2019ve seen he seems in really good shape.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Sir Delius&#8217; second-place finish in the Chelmsford even surprised Bott with how impressive the stayer was at the mile.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was probably a bit sharper than I expected, but in fairness he probably needed to be to be on the potential path that we had in mind,\u201d Bott admitted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHad he not, we might have had to pivot slightly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe exciting part about him is that we are seeing nice improvement on him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sir Delius will be making his debut Caulfield run this Saturday and despite questions around whether the import will be able to handle the track, Bott believes he will run very positively.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe seemed to be very comfortable in the work that he\u2019s done down in Melbourne,\u201d Bott admitted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe seems very comfortable that way of going, he\u2019s sort of got straight on to that Melbourne leg and handled the work nicely.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll indications (that he can handle Caulfield) are positive at this stage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sir Delius races on Saturday in Race 7 at Caulfield.
