An update has been issued ahead of Gale\u00f3n Andaluc\u00eda ship\u2019s visit to Liverpool. The huge vessel is a replica of the legendary Spanish galleons, which sailed the world’s oceans for three centuries. The ship was initially supposed to visit and open its decks to the public at the Royal Albert Dock<\/a> from Tuesday, September 9 to Sunday, September 21.<\/p>\n

However, the team behind the ship confirmed to the ECHO<\/a> this would no longer be the case, due to ongoing weather<\/a> conditions.<\/p>\n

In an update issued today (September 19), it was confirmed that the Gale\u00f3n Andalucia is on its way to the city to open its decks to the public from Wednesday, September 24 to Sunday, October 5.<\/p>\n

The Gale\u00f3n Andaluc\u00eda is a unique replica of the Spanish galleons that departed from the Andalusian coasts and between the 16th and 18th centuries.<\/p>\n

They sailed the Atlantic, navigated the Caribbean and American coasts, and covered the vast Pacific route, connecting and communicating the world.<\/p>\n

It is an impressive 55-meter-long ship with six decks, made from iroko and pine wood, and nearly 1,000 square meters of sail area across its seven sails.<\/p>\n

It was built in Punta Umbr\u00eda (Huelva) with meticulous historical accuracy.<\/p>\n

Visitors of the ship will be able to visit five of its decks, where there will be an exhibition.<\/p>\n

The Gale\u00f3n has already sailed over 100,000 nautical miles across seas, visiting ports on four continents, including London, Shanghai, Singapore, Hong Kong, Manila, New York, and Quebec\u2014proudly promoting the Spanish universal culture.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the visit, Royal Albert Dock<\/a> Estate Manager, Sean Morrison, said: “We are incredibly excited to welcome the magnificent Gale\u00f3n Andaluc\u00eda to the Royal Albert Dock for its first-ever visit to Liverpool.<\/p>\n

“It’s a huge privilege to host such an impressive vessel, which will be a major attraction for both locals and tourists seeing it set against the backdrop of our historic waterfront.<\/p>\n

“The ship will be docked at Canning Half Tide Dock, a site managed by the Canal & River Trust, and we look forward to a fantastic two weeks of celebrating maritime history and heritage.”<\/p>\n
