His bewilderment over something as common as cling film was an indicator of that.<\/p>\n<p>The excerpt originally appeared in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/books\/2018\/mar\/23\/rebel-prince-charles-tom-bower\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Guardian<\/a> in 2018 and sparked fascination among royal watchers. In another incident, the king complained after flying Club Class with British Airways on a trip from London to Hong Kong.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt took me some time to realise \u2026 that this was not first class,\u201d Charles allegedly wrote in his journal. \u201cIt puzzled me as to why the seat seemed so uncomfortable. Such is the end of Empire, I sighed to myself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His 120-person staff reportedly includes gardeners who hand-pluck weeds, and even men tasked with collecting slugs by torchlight.<\/p>\n<p>Tom also claims that Charles brought his own food to events and smashed radios when irritated by the news.<\/p>\n<p>Despite his royal fussiness, Charles told the BBC in 2021 he skips meat and fish two days a week and <a href=\"https:\/\/royal-insider.com\/2025\/01\/27\/king-charles-diet-ending-habit-skipping-lunch-cancer-diagnosis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">avoids dairy<\/a> once a week.<\/p>\n<p>Former royal chef Darren McGrady also revealed his fondness for Italian food, especially lamb.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was a foodie,\u201d Darren told Delish in 2020. \u201cHe loved to know what was being served and where it was sourced from.
