Plans to upgrade a Merseyrail station and add a shop onto its site have been approved. It was announced earlier this year that the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority (LCRCA) would look to pump money into upgrading Moorfields station<\/a> in the city centre, which will be the first phase of a wider project aiming to transform it.<\/p>\n

A planning application for the upgrades<\/a> was submitted to Liverpool City Council<\/a> in July. In the application were plans to carry out external alterations to Moorfields, including new improved access, cycle storage and a retail unit.<\/p>\n

A planning document<\/a> states: “The current station appearance is outdated in appearance and enables significant levels of anti-social behaviour in, around and directly underneath the station foyer.<\/p>\n

“There is necessity to reduce this, and by doing so will improve the overall passenger experience.<\/p>\n

“Furthermore, the proposed improvements seek to re-establish the station as a focal point and destination within the urban cityscape, which the current station facilities fail to do.”<\/p>\n
