The reason they say that is because of the quality of the fields we assemble here in London, and this year, our historic 45th edition, is stronger than ever before.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/marathon-r4sbdd2e.jpeg\" width=\"3159\" height=\"2106\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"sc-eqUAAy kRUyJB\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Peres Jepchirchir won the women\u2019s London Marathon in 2024 <\/p>\n<p>AP<\/p>\n<p>Keep reading to get the form guide for this year&#8217;s race.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Who are the favourites to win the London Marathon 2025? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/viviancheruiyot2204.jpg\" width=\"1706\" height=\"1137\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"sc-eqUAAy kRUyJB\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Vivian Cheruiyot, 41, is old enough to have competed in the Sydney 2000 Olympics<\/p>\n<p>AP<\/p>\n<p>On the women\u2019s side, two of the three fastest women of all time are in town, with <strong>Tigist Assefa<\/strong>, the former world record holder, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/sifan-hassan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Sifan Hassan<\/strong><\/a><strong>,<\/strong> the Olympic champion, set to compete.<\/p>\n<p>Now 41, <strong>Vivian Cheruiyot<\/strong>, who won the race in 2018 and took 5,000m gold at the 2016 Rio Olympics, is back in the lineup. Fellow Kenyan <strong>Joyciline Jepkosgei,<\/strong> the 2021 champion, is also competing, while Ethiopia\u2019s <strong>Alemu Megertu<\/strong> returns as a two-time podium finisher in London.<\/p>\n<p>Britain\u2019s <strong>Eilish McColgan<\/strong> is making her marathon debut, aiming to set a new Scottish record over the distance.<\/p>\n<p>Multiple champion <strong>Peres Jepchirchir <\/strong>and the aforementioned world record holder <strong>Ruth Chepng\u2019etich<\/strong> were initially on the entry list but have since withdrawn from the race.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/1745408231_846_newFile.jpg\" width=\"2596\" height=\"1730\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"sc-eqUAAy kRUyJB\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Eliud Kipchoge is no longer a favourite but cannot be ruled out<\/p>\n<p>AP<\/p>\n<p>As for the men, a big draw is <strong>Jacob Kiplimo <\/strong>&#8211; the half marathon world record holder who is making his debut over the 26.2 miles in London. <\/p>\n<p>But he will have his work cut out to beat <strong>Tamirat Tola<\/strong>, the Ethiopian who won marathon gold in Paris 2024 and was the 2022 world marathon champion.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tola<\/strong> did not finish in London last year, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/kenya\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kenya<\/a>\u2019s <strong>Alexander Mutiso Munyao<\/strong>, winner last year, is back to defend his title. Countryman <strong>Sebastian Sawe<\/strong> is another good bet, having won in Valencia last year with the fastest-ever debut time.<\/p>\n<p>Another Kenyan, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/eliud-kipchoge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Eliud Kipchoge<\/strong><\/a>, has the fastest PB in the field, but the former world record holder and four-time winner here is now 40 and dropped out of last year\u2019s Olympic marathon.<\/p>\n<p>In the absence of the injured <strong>Emile Cairess<\/strong>, British hopes rest on <strong>Mahamed Mahamed<\/strong> and <strong>Phil Sesemann<\/strong>, while Olympic triathlon champion <strong>Alex Yee<\/strong> is making his debut.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Full elite men\u2019s field for
