A weekend washout across Greater Manchester is predicted as a weather<\/a> warning for ‘heavy’ rain comes into force in the region.<\/p>\n The yellow-coded warning, issued by the Met Office, says there’s a chance of ‘transport disruption and flooding’.<\/p>\n Saturday began with heavy showers – with further downpours forecast for throughout the day and on into the early hours of Sunday.<\/p>\n The Met Office said: “A band of rain, heavy at times, across Wales, northern England and southern Scotland is expected to remain slow-moving during Saturday morning before making erratic eastward progress, eventually clearing early on Sunday.<\/p>\n Never miss a story with the MEN’s daily Catch Up newsletter – get it in your inbox by signing up here<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n “Whilst there is still some uncertainty in the focus for the heaviest rainfall, 20-30 mm of rain is likely to fall quite widely and there is a chance that 60-80 mm of rain could fall in places. These higher accumulations may not be confined to high ground only. Due to this uncertainty, further changes to the warning area are possible.<\/p>\n “As the area of rain clears east, a spell of strong northwesterly winds may develop later Saturday and Sunday morning, most likely towards North Sea coasts.”<\/p>\n All parts of Greater Manchester are covered by the warning, which runs from 9am on Saturday until 6am on Sunday.<\/p>\n The Met Office said in its warning there was ‘a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings’.<\/p>\n “Where flooding occurs, there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services, ” added the alert.<\/p>\n “Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.”<\/p>\n Join the Manchester Evening News <\/strong>WhatsApp<\/strong> group <\/strong>HERE<\/a><\/p>\n There are currently no flood warnings or alerts in force in Greater Manchester.<\/p>\n The forecast for Greater Manchester predicts highs of 16C on Saturday, combined with a high likelihood of rain all day.<\/p>\n Sunday, however, should be drier and brighter, with highs of 15C, although the weather warning for rain remains in place until 6am.<\/p>\n —<\/p>\n For the latest stories and breaking news visit manchestereveningnews.co.uk<\/a>.
