{"id":438151,"date":"2025-09-20T08:49:10","date_gmt":"2025-09-20T08:49:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/438151\/"},"modified":"2025-09-20T08:49:10","modified_gmt":"2025-09-20T08:49:10","slug":"heathrow-travel-chaos-as-cyber-attack-causes-major-delays-across-europe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/438151\/","title":{"rendered":"Heathrow travel chaos as cyber attack causes major delays across Europe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">London\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/heathrow-airport\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Heathrow Airport;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Heathrow Airport<\/a> has warned <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/passengers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:passengers;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">passengers<\/a> to expect <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/delays\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:delays;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">delays<\/a> after a \u201ctechnical issue\u201d hit check-in and boarding systems used by airlines across Europe.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The disruption is being linked to a cyber attack on a company that provides check-in and boarding technology to multiple carriers worldwide.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/brussels-airport\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Brussels Airport;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Brussels Airport<\/a> confirmed the attack had forced staff to switch to manual check-in procedures, with 10 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/flights\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:flights;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">flights<\/a> cancelled and 17 delayed by more than an hour.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cIt is still too early to say when the problem will be resolved,\u201d Brussels Airport said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cThis has a large impact on the flight schedule and will unfortunately cause delays and cancellations of flights,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Berlin Airport has also reported delays, with disruption expected to continue through Saturday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Heathrow said it was working with partners to minimise the impact.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A Heathrow spokesperson said: \u201cCollins Aerospace, which provides check-in and boarding systems for several airlines across multiple airports globally, is experiencing a technical issue that may cause delays for departing passengers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cWhile the provider works to resolve the problem quickly, we advise passengers to check their flight status with their airline before travelling.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cPlease arrive no earlier than three hours before a long-haul flight or two hours before a domestic flight. Additional colleagues are available in check-in areas to assist and help minimise disruption.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cWe apologise for any inconvenience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">This is a breaking news story.
