Armed officers stormed an east Manchester estate after a man was shot in the foot overnight<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Police were called out to Highgate Crescent, in Gorton<\/a>, at around 12.15am this morning (September 20).<\/p>\n

Greater Manchester Police<\/a> says a 22-year-old man was shot by an unknown offender who fled the scene.<\/p>\n

Luckily, the victim escaped with just a graze. A cordon is now in place near Highgate Crescent as the investigation steps up.<\/p>\n

An area of Wayland Road has been taped off, along with a wooded area close-by.<\/p>\n

Forensic investigators have been seen carrying out fingertip searches and taking photographic evidence.<\/p>\n

Detectives do not believe the incident is connected to two shootings in Newton Heath<\/a> earlier this week, in Ainthorpe Walk and Ballantine Street, which have been linked to each other by investigators.<\/p>\n

A large police presence remains in attendance this afternoon (Saturday).<\/p>\n

A GMP spokesperson said: “Officers responded to reports of a firearms discharge on Highgate Crescent in Gorton at around 12:15am this morning (Saturday, September 20).<\/p>\n

“A man was shot in the foot by an unknown man, who fled from the scene. Firearms officers attend and located a bullet in the victim\u2019s shoe.<\/p>\n

“Thankfully, the victim suffered only a graze and no serious injuries. We believe this incident is not linked to the firearms discharges in Newton<\/a> Heath earlier this week.<\/p>\n
