The owner of a German shop which put up a sign saying \u2018Jews are banned\u2019 has said he is not an extremist after public outcry.<\/p>\n
Hans Velten Reisch, 60, owns and operates a small shop in Flensburg, and put up the sign reading \u2018Jews are banned from here! Nothing personal. No antisemitism<\/a>. Just can\u2019t stand you\u2019 last week.<\/p>\n Police were alerted to the shocking sign shortly after it was put up, and protesters have since defaced the front of the shop.<\/p>\n Though the sign has since been removed from the front window, it\u2019s still hanging on a wall inside of the store.<\/p>\n Flensburg Mayor Fabian Geyer said: \u2018This is a reminder of the darkest chapters of Germany<\/a>\u2019s history and has absolutely no place in this city.\u2019<\/p>\n Despite the outrage, Reisch said he isn\u2019t an extremist, and described himself as \u2018a little to the left, a little to the right \u2013 but not radical\u2019 when speaking to forde.news.<\/p>\n \t\t He said: \u2018Today, you\u2019re already a Nazi if you order a gypsy schnitzel.\u2019<\/p>\n The shopowner said he put up the sign in opposition of those who support the war in Israel.<\/p>\n \u2018I don\u2019t need people like that here \u2013 neither in business nor in private,\u2019 he emphasised.<\/p>\n But he did say that Jews who distance themself from the war in Gaza<\/a> are welcome to have a coffee as well, and he has \u2018nothing against them\u2019.<\/p>\n The sign is still sparking anger in Germany, prompting a response from many political parties as well.<\/p>\n The Flensburg Green Party<\/a> said it was a \u2018clear expression of antisemitism\u2019.<\/p>\n State parliament member Kianusch Stender said: \u2018We are an open, colourful city that has a duty, based on its historical responsibility alone, to take a stand against anti-Semitism everywhere and at all times.\u2019<\/p>\n \t\t In London this month, a group of synagogues targeted by\u00a0antisemitic\u00a0vandalism have said they \u2018fear for their safety\u2019 and called for bolstered security measures.<\/a><\/p>\n The synagogue in Golders Green, London, was one of the Jewish targets of a man who daubed faeces and hurled urine across buildings.<\/p>\n The\u00a0police<\/a>\u00a0and Mayor\u00a0Sadiq Khan<\/a>\u00a0have condemned the vandalism and vowed to crack down on racially aggravated\u00a0crime<\/a>.<\/p>\n A Jewish nursery\u00a0school<\/a>\u00a0was among the buildings hit in a string of four connected incidents of vandalism.<\/p>\n Faeces and urine were flung at the sites, with worshippers and schoolchildren confronted by the filthy aftermath of the attacks.<\/p>\n A member of one of the synagogues targeted close to the centre of Golders Green told\u00a0Metro\u00a0<\/strong>there were heightened fears over safety amid the escalating crisis in\u00a0Gaza<\/a>\u00a0amid the Israel-Hamas war.<\/p>\n Get in touch with our news team by emailing us at webnews@metro.co.uk<\/a>.<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n For more stories like this, <\/strong>check our news page<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n Arrow Arrow Arrow![\"A](\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/SEI_266798322-b7ac.jpg\")
