The idyllic city boasts stunning views of the Nordkette mountain range and is hope to a unique mix of buildings from colourful houses on the bank of the river to medieval old town with Baroque architecture and modern cable car stations designed by Zaha Hadid.<\/p>\n<p>Top attractions on Tripadvisor include the Nordkette (cable cars), the old town and Ambras Castle.<\/p>\n<p>At the time of writing flights from London City Airport start from \u00a3137 in December, but there are currently no direct flights available, they all have one or two stops.<\/p>\n<p>Alternatively, easyJet has flights starting from \u00a388 from <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/gatwick-airport\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gatwick<\/a> and these take one hour and 55 minutes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Geneva <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"485\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/GettyImages-1352148361.jpg\" class=\"article-image wp-image-24216941\" alt=\"Aerial view of the Rhone river that flow in the heart of Geneva, Switzerland\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\"\/><br \/>\n\t\tGeneva is beautiful but expensive (Picture: Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p><a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/geneva\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Geneva<\/a> is one of the most expensive cities in the world \u2013 so visitors might have to budget for the high price of food and accommodation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>That being said, there are <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2024\/10\/15\/this-european-city-astonishing-beauty-offers-free-public-transport-tourists-21797486\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">plenty of free things to do<\/a>, such as admiring Lake Geneva. Tourists can walk along the promenade or take a free boat ride across.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019ll also be able to see the Jet\u2019dEau, a 140-metre fountain and one of the city\u2019s most famous landmarks that can be viewed from various points along the waterfront.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s worth noting that public transport is free in Geneva depending on where you stay.
