{"id":43909,"date":"2025-04-23T13:20:08","date_gmt":"2025-04-23T13:20:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/43909\/"},"modified":"2025-04-23T13:20:08","modified_gmt":"2025-04-23T13:20:08","slug":"chill-out-macron-isnt-calling-snap-elections-elysee-says-politico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/43909\/","title":{"rendered":"Chill out, Macron isn\u2019t calling snap elections, Elys\u00e9e says \u2013 POLITICO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While it is not uncommon for Elys\u00e9e officials to deny media reports, it seldom takes to social media to refute press articles. <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Elysee\/status\/1899124810644406339\" target=\"_blank\">Last month<\/a>, however, it shot down reports from the online outlet BLAST, which reported that Macron planned to buy a \u20ac200,000 Aston Martin.<\/p>\n<p>The Elys\u00e9e\u2019s Wednesday tweet was responding to a widely cited story from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-04-22\/macron-floats-fresh-snap-election-in-france-as-early-as-the-fall?embedded-checkout=true\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">story from Bloomberg<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/newsletter\/playbook-paris\/panic-at-the-disso\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">POLITICO reported last week<\/a> that several people close to the president \u2014 though not Macron himself \u2014had discussed the prospect of snap elections. The French presidency\u2019s press service told POLITICO that the president did not intend to call new elections before the next presidential race, scheduled for 2027, despite the currently fragmented state of the French parliament.<\/p>\n<p>The French legislature has been in near-deadlock since Macron took the political class aback by dissolving the National Assembly last summer. The French president can only call for snap elections once a year, so he\u2019ll be able to do so again starting over the summer. <\/p>\n<p>The absence of a majority in parliament has already cost <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/france-michel-barnier-presidential-run-pm-vote-no-confidence-macron\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">one prime minister, Michel Barnier<\/a>, his job.
