Tetouan \u2013 Yesterday, Russia violated Estonia\u2019s airspace for 12 whole minutes \u2013 without permission or communication from the Estonian military \u2013 in an attempt to intimidate the Eastern European country with MiG-31s fighter jets.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The EU called the move an \u201cextremely dangerous provocation.\u201d This breach of autonomous, sovereign airspace follows a similar Russian offensive in Polish airspace last week.\u00a0<\/p>\n
In response to last week\u2019s offensive, the French Mission to the United Nations said that while attacking Ukrainian territory, Russia \u201cconducted nineteen incursions of drone-type objects into Polish airspace. \u2026 which posed a real threat to the civilian population, the infrastructure, and aviation safety.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cPoland\u2019s territorial integrity \u2013 and, simultaneously, NATO and EU airspace \u2013 was violated on such an unprecedented and massive scale. This outrageous incident was preceded by various Russian violations of regional airspaces in the past,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n
The offensives are symbolic of Moscow\u2019s continued efforts to intimidate NATO and deter its involvement and allyship with Ukraine, amidst Russia\u2019s continued war on Ukraine.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, NATO is responding to Russia\u2019s breach in Estonia: Italian F-35s were deployed to intercept and deter the Russian aircraft. Sweden and Finland also deployed rapid-response aircraft.\u00a0<\/p>\n
