Emma Raducanu has revealed she is working with Mark Petchey on an “informal” basis, making him her eighth coach in just four years.<\/p>\n

The British tennis star, currently competing at the Madrid Open in Spain, has become known for frequently changing trainers throughout her professional career.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Sky Sports, Raducanu said of her arrangement with Petchey: “It’s pretty informal for now but is something that’s going really well.”<\/p>\n

Petchey, who previously helped Andy Murray secure his first tour title, is also a respected tennis broadcaster.<\/p>\n

The pair’s collaboration has already shown promising results on court.<\/p>\n

Raducanu explained she’s taking a different approach to her training regime: “I’m still figuring things out: what works for me, what doesn’t. What gets the best out of me.<\/p>\n

“For now, I’m not getting as technical as I used to maybe.<\/p>\n

“I’ve realised now that less is more for me sometimes. I work really intense and really hard and can definitely be partial to overkilling it sometimes.<\/p>\n

“It’s just making sure when I’m on the court I’m maxing out for X amount of time so I can focus, and then once I’m done, I’m switching off better.”<\/p>\n

Raducanu’s partnership with Petchey has already yielded positive results, with the Briton reaching the quarter-finals of the Miami Open last month.<\/p>\n

This performance represented some of her best tennis in recent times.<\/p>\n

Petchey, 54, currently works for the Tennis Channel, but their lack of Wimbledon broadcasting rights could prove advantageous for Raducanu.<\/p>\n

This means he could potentially be available to coach her during the grass court season at her favourite tournament.<\/p>\n

However, his television commitments may prevent a more permanent arrangement, explaining the current “informal” nature of their working relationship.<\/p>\n

Raducanu’s history of changing coaches has been well-documented, with the tennis star working with five different trainers between April 2021 and November 2022 alone.<\/p>\n

Most recently, she prematurely ended her trial with coach Vlado Platenik after just 14 days and one match.<\/p>\n

The Slovak arrived in Indian Wells on March 5 and worked with Raducanu for only her first match at the tournament.<\/p>\n

Petchey represents the eighth coach to work with Raducanu since she split from her first trainer, Nigel Sears, in 2021.<\/p>\n

Despite her track record, Raducanu has previously insisted she doesn’t prefer frequent coaching changes.<\/p>\n

“It has never been my philosophy to chop and change coaches,” she said.<\/p>\n

“I’ve never wanted that. I’m a very loyal person, whether that’s with my tennis or off the court.”<\/p>\n

She added: “In the past, unfortunately, it hasn’t always worked like this but that is my intention.”<\/p>\n

Since parting with Sears, Raducanu has worked with Andrew Richardson for nine weeks after her US Open triumph, Torben Belz for five months, and Dmitry Tursunov for a three-month trial.<\/p>\n

Sebastian Sachs lasted seven months from November 2022, before Nick Cavaday stepped down on health grounds.<\/p>\n
