An unmissable period drama film is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video<\/a> and is a must for those who love stories set in different eras, as others have enjoyed a \u201cmasterful\u201d BBC series<\/a> and some have hailed an \u201cexquisite\u201d adaptation of an Ibsen classic<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The movie came out in 1995 but continues to thrill audiences thanks to its impressive cast of A-listers.<\/p>\n

Many viewers have praised the film and one 10\/10 review on IMDb read: \u201cSatisfying from start to finish.\u201d<\/p>\n

A second reviewer praised the film as a \u201ccompelling epic\u201d and stated: \u201cIt’s simply a great epic about honor [sic], love, and family.\u201d<\/p>\n

This is an epic about a stubborn, sometimes foolish, incredibly courageous and honest mans fight for his honor and freedom against tyranny. I loved it [sic].\u201d<\/p>\n

Rob Roy came out in 1995, the same year as Mel Gibson\u2019s Braveheart, a Hollywood biopic of Scottish freedom fighter and knight William Wallace.<\/p>\n

Much like Braveheart, Rob Roy focused on another Scottish legend, Rob Roy, a cattle raider and Jacobite.<\/p>\n

The movie was set in 1713 after nobleman Rob Roy MacGregor (played by Liam Neeson) becomes an outlaw seeking vengeance on those who have wronged him and hiding from the Redcoats as well as facing charges of being a Jacobite.<\/p>\n

Although the film is known from straying from historical events, it\u2019s garnered high praise.<\/p>\n

The film boasted an all-star cast, including Succession\u2019s Brian Cox, Alien\u2019s John Hurt, Pulp Fiction actor Tim Roth, American Horror Story legend Jessica Lange. Jason Flemyng, Line of Duty and Outlander: Blood of My Blood\u2019s Brian McCardie, Andrew Keir, Madam Secretary\u2019s Eric Stoltz.<\/p>\n

Hurt and Roth\u2019s villainous performances as Montrose and Cunningham respectively received much praise.<\/p>\n

One person noted: \u201cThis is a villain you love to loathe. The Roth character is so foppish that he appears somewhat effeminate; but this is merely disguise as he’s actually a ruthless master swordsman. Surely this is one of film’s top villains ever.\u201d<\/p>\n

As another said: \u201cCunningham(Tim Roth) is an amazing villain and character in this story. Brutally cold and if you watch his face he seems to be able to turn his eyes off and look completely evil.\u201d<\/p>\n

A third said: \u201c[T]im Roth’s villain is brilliant (you really get to hate the guy) and the supporting cast is most qualified mainly Jessica Lange, John Hurt and Brian Cox.\u201d<\/p>\n
