Hero firefighters rescued three men trapped inside a car at 4.30am in rising flood waters.<\/p>\n

Emergency services were called to Lumns Lane in Swinton<\/a>, Salford<\/a>, near to the tip and recycling centre, on Sunday morning.<\/p>\n

The area is prone to flooding and was hit again as Greater Manchester was lashed by hours of torrential rain on Saturday<\/a> and overnight into Sunday, with a number of flood alerts and warnings issued.<\/p>\n

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said a specialist response unit was sent to the scene, together with three fire engines.<\/p>\n

Firefighters in water rescue clothing reached the car, which hasn’t been described, and all three men were helped to safety.<\/p>\n

Fire crews were at the scene for around 30 minutes. The road was closed due to flooding, with warning signs put in place.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Just before 4.30am this morning (Sunday 21st September), three fire engines from Agecroft, Broughton and Eccles<\/a> fire station, along with the Technical Response Unit from Ashton<\/a>, were called to reports of a car stuck in flood water on Lumns Lane, Swinton.<\/p>\n

“Crews arrived quickly at the scene. Firefighters wearing water rescue clothing rescued three men from the car.<\/p>\n

“Firefighters were in attendance for around 30 minutes.”<\/p>\n

The fire service said the men escaped without injury and no one was taken to hospital. Flooding had subsided at the scene on Sunday morning.<\/p>\n

Despite widespread flooding, the fire service said there were no other serious incidents overnight, although other areas of Salford were hit.<\/p>\n

Peel Green Road in Eccles was submerged in flood waters on Saturday night,<\/a> with residents reporting damage to cars and homes as a result.<\/p>\n

Salford Council said it was ‘anticipating the use of the city\u2019s flood basins’ after reports of flooding, and vowed to monitor the situation.<\/p>\n

Water levels, however, are now understood to be subsiding.<\/p>\n
