A 25-year-old moped rider has been killed in a crash in Lewisham<\/a>. Police believe he was struck by a car on Southend Lane, which runs between Lower Sydenham<\/a> and Downham<\/a>, just before 6.40pm yesterday (Saturday, September 20).<\/p>\n

Despite best efforts from London Ambulance Service (LAS) paramedics<\/a>, he died at the roadside. Though he is yet to be identified publicly, his family are now being supported by specialist Met Police officers.<\/a><\/p>\n

The driver of the car involved in the crash, a 52-year-old man, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving while under the influence of drink or drugs. He remains in custody as of this afternoon (Sunday), the Metropolitan Police has confirmed. Investigators are now appealing for witnesses to the collision to come forward.<\/p>\n

Earlier the same day, a 68-year-old motorcyclist was left with life-changing injuries<\/a> following a crash in Hornchurch<\/a>. The pensioner collided with a car on Upminster Road, a busy stretch outside Upminster Bridge Tube station.<\/p>\n

Anyone who witnessed the collision, or has relevant information, is urged to contact police on 101, quoting reference 5934\/20SEP. Anonymous reports can also be made to Crimestoppers via 0800 555 111 or the charity’s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n
