{"id":441161,"date":"2025-09-21T15:05:11","date_gmt":"2025-09-21T15:05:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/441161\/"},"modified":"2025-09-21T15:05:11","modified_gmt":"2025-09-21T15:05:11","slug":"council-gyms-are-free-for-all-for-national-fitness-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/441161\/","title":{"rendered":"Council gyms are free for all for National Fitness Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1000\" height=\"691\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Rothwell-sports-centre-3.jpg\" class=\"attachment-full size-full wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>Active Leeds is opening the doors to all their gyms across Leeds, including South Leeds Stadium and Middleton leisure Centre, on Wednesday (24 September 2025) as they celebrate National Fitness Day.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone will be able to access the gyms for free from open to close in an effort to encourage more people to get active.<\/p>\n<p>Led by\u00a0UKActive, National Fitness Day is the UK\u2019s largest celebration of physical activity, this year highlighting the power of individuals and communities to take charge of their wellbeing through physical activity.<\/p>\n<p>With nearly\u00a0one in four people in England\u00a0classed as inactive \u2014 doing less than 30 minutes of activity a week \u2014 National Fitness Day hopes to inspire millions to get moving and support the NHS by improving the nation\u2019s health.<\/p>\n<p>Active Leeds currently runs 16 leisure centres, 13 gyms and 13 pools, providing affordable memberships and a range of pay as you go discount options to ensure the people of Leeds can be active.<\/p>\n<p>Many improvements to Leeds\u2019 leisure centres have been made over the last few years, including refurbishing gyms at South Leeds Stadium and Middleton leisure centre as well as Scott Hall, Rothwell, Wetherby, Armley and Morley leisure centres and investing in new state-of-the-art equipment.<\/p>\n<p>Councillor Salma Arif, Leeds City Council\u2019s executive member for adult social care, active lifestyles and culture, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cActive lifestyles are so important in creating better health outcomes across Leeds, and it is crucial that as a council we ensure there are a wide range of affordable options for residents to keep fit and stay active.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re hoping to see a lot of new people coming to our gyms on National Fitness Day, and our staff are always happy to help if someone feels nervous.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>For more information, visit <a href=\"https:\/\/active.leeds.gov.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>active.leeds.gov.uk<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This post is based on a press release issued by <a href=\"https:\/\/news.leeds.gov.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Leeds City Council<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>While you\u2019re here, can we ask a favour?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">South Leeds Life is published by a not-for-profit social enterprise.
