Even if the decision is confirmed, the party\u2019s second in command, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/france-jordan-bardella-confirms-2027-presidential-bid-marine-le-pen-barred\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jordan Bardella, is seen as a serious <\/a><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/france-jordan-bardella-confirms-2027-presidential-bid-marine-le-pen-barred\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">contender<\/a> <\/strong>to win the next election.<\/p>\n<p>The risk of a far-right victory in France is the main reason why budget negotiations are being fast-tracked, five officials and EU diplomats told POLITICO.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s because National Rally\u2019s far-right platform \u2014\u00a0which includes slashing France\u2019s<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/b54d149e-3329-4fbd-97a9-7d5aebb6fbad\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> contributions to the EU budget<\/a> and downsizing military aid to Ukraine \u2014\u00a0could throw a spanner in the Council negotiations.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/GettyImages-2235457864-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7198746\"  \/>Jordan Bardella, is seen as a serious contender to win the next election. | Adnan Farzat\/Getty Images <\/p>\n<p>Fueling the sense of urgency, other major EU countries,\u00a0including Spain and Italy, are also set to go to the polls in 2027, adding a further layer of uncertainty to the budget talks.<\/p>\n<p>This rapid timeline has caused some annoyance among some, such as Italy and Poland, which are critical of the Commission\u2019s \u20ac1.816 trillion proposal.
