Fantastic fightbacks, goals galore and memorable individual displays headlined an action-packed day in the Adobe Women\u2019s FA Cup second round qualifying.<\/strong><\/p>\n

South Shields<\/strong> staged a remarkable escape mission to progress to third round qualifying. The Mariners were 3-0 down at half-time against Alnwick Town <\/strong>but goals from Jen Wootten, Annece Legg and Ellie White, the final two in the dying minutes, sent the tie to penalties.<\/p>\n

After consecutive Alnwick misses with spot-kicks four and five, Legg stepped up to seal the visitors\u2019 progress.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere in the north-east, Wallsend BC <\/strong>brought Wigginton Grasshoppers’<\/strong> first Adobe Women\u2019s FA Cup campaign to an end by winning 5-0 while Stockton Town<\/strong> edged a seven-goal thriller 4-3 against Park View<\/strong> \u2013 who were 17-0 victors in the previous round.<\/p>\n

There were plenty of goals up and down the country. Brunsmeer Athletic <\/strong>defeated Rotherham United <\/strong>6-4 and Grimsby Town<\/strong> hosted a barnburner as visitors Leeds Modernians<\/strong> came out on top 6-5.<\/p>\n

Like South Shields, Modernians were 3-0 down but pulled it back to 3-2 by the break and completed the turnaround in the second half of a rollercoaster encounter.<\/p>\n

Seventh-tier Brookside Athletic <\/strong>earned a superb 4-1 win at a Stamford<\/strong> side two divisions above them while Gateshead Leam Rangers<\/strong> also progressed, beating sixth-tier Hartlepool United<\/strong> 5-0 away from home.<\/p>\n

Ramsey & Mitley<\/strong> and Leyton Orient<\/strong> also sprung surprises with 5-1 away wins at sides from higher divisions, Brantham Athletic<\/strong> and Dussindale & Hellesdon<\/strong> respectively. Tiverton Town<\/strong> kept their dreams alive with a penalty shootout victory over Bishops Lydeard<\/strong>, who play two tiers higher, following a goalless draw.<\/p>\n

Mancunian Unity<\/strong>, who enjoyed a run to the third round proper last season, kept their progress going this time around with a 4-0 win over Curzon Ashton<\/strong>. Debbie Price opened the scoring in the first half before Sadie Mitchell\u2019s brace and one from Haz Purslow sealed the outcome.<\/p>\n

Toby FC<\/strong>\u2019s historic first-ever home Adobe Women\u2019s FA Cup tie ended in defeat as Needham Market<\/strong> ran out 3-1 winners thanks to Mia Etheridge-Golding\u2019s opener and Annie Posnett\u2019s double.<\/p>\n

Kayla Potter scored five times as Wycombe Wanderers<\/strong> won 10-1 at Wallingford & Crowmarsh<\/strong>, while there were also big wins for Athletico London<\/strong>, 12-1 at Southend<\/strong>, and Shrewsbury Town<\/strong>, who scored eight without reply at Albrighton<\/strong>. FC St Helens<\/strong> did likewise at home to Hyde while new Bolton Wanderers<\/strong> signing Abbie Brown scored twice as they beat Chester<\/strong> 5-0.<\/p>\n

Last season\u2019s Mitre Golden Ball winner \u2013 Preston North End<\/strong>\u2019s Madison Hadley \u2013 found the net again but will be unable to add to her tally in the later rounds after her side were knocked out on penalties at Poulton Victoria<\/strong> following a 2-2 draw.<\/p>\n

The weather sadly intervened to postpone several ties, including the local derbies at Carlisle United<\/strong>, who were due to host Penrith<\/strong>, and Manchester Laces<\/strong>, where FC United of Manchester<\/strong> were the scheduled visitors.<\/p>\n
