Former Love Island<\/a> star Ollie Williams<\/a> has announced he\u2019s running for office as a Reform UK candidate, five years on from his controversial stint on the dating show.<\/p>\n In 2020, Ollie, now 29, shocked ITV<\/a> viewers as social media<\/a> posts of him bragging about hunting<\/a> emerged.<\/p>\n After just two episodes of series six, Ofcom\u2019s complaints about his casting doubled from 231 to 467.<\/p>\n Ollie then only spent three days in the villa<\/a> for Love Island\u2019s winter series before leaving the show completely, realising he still had feelings for another girl on the outside.<\/p>\n Now, having shrugged off his reality TV persona, the aspiring politician will stand in the\u00a0Lostwithiel and Lanreath ward in an upcoming local election.<\/p>\n \t\t\t\tGet personalised updates on Love Island\t\t\t<\/p>\n Wake up to find news on your TV shows in your inbox every morning with Metro\u2019s TV Newsletter.<\/p>\n Sign up to our newsletter<\/a> and then select your show in the link we\u2019ll send you so we can get TV news tailored to you.<\/p>\n Taking to Instagram as his campaign commences, he wrote: \u2018I am proud to announce I will be running in May\u2019s local elections for @thereformpartyuk in Lostwithiel and Lanreath.<\/p>\n \t\t \u2018Our freedom of speech and society has been eroded for far too long and it\u2019s time to act.\u2019<\/p>\n \u2018I am not prepared to standby and hope someone else sorts it out while I watch it all burn \u2013 so I\u2019m taking my first baby steps into politics [sic]\u2019, he declared.<\/p>\n \u2018If you\u2019ve followed me thus far I hope you\u2019ll trust my judgement, when I say I believe this to be the best course of action for the protection of your free way of life. \ud83c\uddec\ud83c\udde7\u2019<\/p>\n Ollie\u2019s caption was accompanied by an infographic listing why he believes people should vote for Reform UK.<\/p>\n Arguments include \u2018freedom to believe in our history and our country\u2019 and \u2018freedom to feel safe and free to be who we are\u2019.<\/p>\n \u2018Remember, political policies can be negotiable, but our FREEDOM is not,\u2019 it also reads.<\/p>\n \t\t His post urges people to \u2018Reform our country and return it to its original strength and glory\u2019.<\/p>\n Opposition-wise, Liberal Democrat councillor Colin Martin was victorious in the 2021 election, securing 42.1% of the vote. He beat the Conservative candidate by 38 votes.<\/p>\n The reaction from Ollie\u2019s 41.5k followers has been pretty mixed, with some telling him \u2018well done\u2019 and wishing him \u2018good luck\u2019.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, others have commented on his previous political posts, in which he voices support for Nigel Farage<\/a>, blasting the Reform Party head as not \u2018informed\u2019 enough to lead a country.<\/p>\n As for how he\u2019s selling himself, Ollie\u2019s campaign poster brands him a \u2018countryside steward and farmer\u2019 whose focuses are \u2018community-led projects\u2019.<\/p>\n Ollie has never made a secret of his hobbies, having come under fire since leaving Love Island for sharing photos from hunting trips.<\/p>\n These have included him posing next to dead animals, such as bloody deer<\/a>, generating major backlash and stern words from animal rights group Peta, who previously slammed him as \u2018cold-hearted\u2019.<\/p>\n After departing Love Island\u2019s South African villa, he issued a statement to say: \u2018I did not shoot any of the animals<\/a> shown in the photographs, nor have I ever shot as a trophy hunter.\u2019<\/p>\n \t\t \t\t\t\t\t![\"Controversial](\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/SEI_149795616-ad82-e1743433184176.jpg\")
