Following his big night<\/a> at last weekend\u2019s 77th Primetime Emmy Awards<\/a>, where he won Outstanding Scripted Variety Series and Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series, John Oliver<\/a> had his work cut out for him on Sunday\u2019s Last Week Tonight<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The comedian pulled no punches as he called out Nexstar<\/a> and Sinclair<\/a>, claiming they had to get Brendan Carr<\/a>\u2018s \u201cdick out of their mouth\u201d to carry out the apparent FCC<\/a>-sanctioned campaign against Jimmy Kimmel<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were off last week, and a lot happened since our last show,\u201d said Oliver in his monologue before launching into the recap, including Trump\u2019s royal visit to the U.K., where protesters projected a photo of the POTUS with Jeffrey Epstein<\/a> on the side of Windsor Castle.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat does make me genuinely proud of the country I\u2019m worried I\u2019m gonna be deported to after this show airs,\u201d he continued, \u201cbecause we\u2019re gonna dive straight in with our main story tonight.\u201d<\/p>\n

Catching his audience up on Disney<\/a>\u2018s announcement that Jimmy Kimmel Live!<\/a> will be \u201cpreempted indefinitely<\/a>.\u201d The suspension has been criticized by many as an attack on free speech, following the FCC\u2019s warning about his Charlie Kirk comments<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Oliver slammed Disney CEO Bob Iger, urging him to take a stand against the Trump administration while warning Iger about his legacy.<\/p>\n

\u201cHistory is also going to remember the cowards who definitely knew better but still let things happen, whether it was for money, convenience, or just comfort,\u201d Oliver said.<\/p>\n

\u201cLook, at some point you\u2019re going to have to draw a line. So I\u2019d argue, why not draw it right here?\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd when they come to you with stupid, ridiculous demands, picking fights that you know you could win in court instead of rolling over, why not stand up and use four key words they don\u2019t tend to teach you in business school?\u2026And that is, \u2018F\u2014 you, make me.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

As Nexstar<\/a> attempts to double its size by acquiring competitor Tegna<\/a>, Oliver explained, \u201cThe point is, Nexstar badly needs FCC approval, so it is hardly surprising that when Carr specifically said companies should pull Kimmel off the air or face consequences, it quickly complied.<\/p>\n

\u201cBasically, Brendan Carr said \u2018jump,\u2019 and Nexstar took his dick out of their mouth for just long enough to say, \u2018How high, exactly<\/a>?’\u201d added Oliver, noting that Sinclair<\/a> then followed suit<\/a>, while also pursuing merger options that require FCC approval.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe sequence of events here could not be clearer, because it was all done in plain view,\u201d Oliver explained. \u201cCarr leaned on broadcasters to take down Kimmel. They did that, sometimes even directly citing Carr while doing so, and then Carr celebrated with a fun GIF. That sure seems like a pretty clear case of the government pressuring companies to censor speech. And it\u2019s not like Trump is even trying to hide it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Oliver then pointed out that he should be safe at HBO<\/a> as it isn\u2019t on broadcast and therefore, \u201cmuch less susceptible to pressure from the FCC,\u201d adding: \u201cThat is obviously very good news for us, and I really don\u2019t see why that situation should change anytime soon.\u201d<\/p>\n

The comedian then played clips of news coverage about Paramount<\/a>\u2018s potential bid<\/a> for Warner Bros.<\/a>, launching into an expletive-laden rant.<\/p>\n

Known for his \u2018Prove Me Wrong\u2019 debates and MAGA POV, activist Kirk was shot dead<\/a> at Utah Valley University on Sept. 10 in a tragedy that has sent shock through the political and media worlds.<\/p>\n

Having previously mocked Trump over POTUS\u2019 take on the NFL and TikTok, Kimmel offered his blunt assessment<\/a> of the aftermath of Kirk\u2019s death in his opening monologue on his Sept. 15 show: \u201cWe hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.\u201d<\/p>\n
