A community has been left shocked after a house was badly damaged in a reported shooting incident in the early hours of Monday. Police officers have been at the scene at Maesglas in the Kenfig Hill area throughout today after the incident rocked the small community in the early hours.<\/p>\n

Residents reported hearing gunshots in the quiet cul-de-sac at around 3.30am. On Monday afternoon one home in the street had visible signs of damage. The window frame of the property’s front door had been broken, with two small holes visible.<\/p>\n

One resident who did not wish to be named spoke to WalesOnline and said he heard what sounded like gunshots and saw a number of people outside on the street. Read the biggest stories in Wales first by signing up to our daily newsletter<\/a> here.<\/p>\n

The resident said: \u201cI heard gunshots and looked out of the window. I couldn\u2019t tell whether they were adults or youths. They were dressed in dark clothes.<\/p>\n

“If you can imagine in the dead of night, sleeping, and you hear something untoward like that, your natural reaction is panic. It was over within seconds. Minutes later the police arrived.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nobody is believed to have been hurt in the incident but police officers have been at the scene since the early hours of Monday morning and remained in attendance on Monday evening.<\/p>\n

Pam and Richard Searle live at Maesglas. Richard said the estate has always been tight-knit with very little crime. He said: \u201cIt\u2019s a lovely area. We\u2019ve lived here for 60 odd years and it\u2019s always been great.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pam added: \u201cIt\u2019s shocking, isn\u2019t it? We didn\u2019t actually hear anything and didn\u2019t know anything about it at all until we saw all the police out here this morning. We couldn\u2019t believe it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Two PCSOs remained in the area at 5pm on Monday, while a cordon which was in place up for much of the day has now been removed.<\/p>\n

South Wales Police has launched an investigation into the incident and is asking anyone with any information to contact them<\/a>, quoting occurrence number 2500303856.”<\/p>\n

A spokeswoman for the force said: “We were called just before 4am this morning (Monday, September 22), following a call from a concerned resident who heard a loud bang and found two holes in their glass door in a property on Maes Glas, Pyle.”<\/p>\n

Detective inspector Gareth Holmes added: \u201cWe understand that this event may cause concern within the community. Please be assured that our investigation is ongoing, and we are actively working to determine the full circumstances surrounding this incident.”<\/p>\n
