Edinburgh residents<\/a> have been warned after a killer escaped from prison<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Raymond McCourt, 59, absconded from HMP Castle Huntly at around 5.30pm on Tuesday, April 22. He has links to Edinburgh and Glasgow.<\/p>\n

The public has been asked not to approach him.<\/p>\n

McCourt was jailed for life in 1993 after murdering a newsagent. He shot Khalid Mahmood in the head, before attempting to rob a nearby bakery at the age of 27.<\/p>\n

In 2015, he was released from prison though was soon sent back after being ‘unable to cope’.<\/p>\n

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “He is described as being 6ft 2in tall, stocky build with short grey hair and beard and has reduced mobility.<\/p>\n

He was reported missing from prison on Tuesday evening -Credit:Police Scotland<\/p>\n

“He was last known to be wearing a long black trench coat, grey dress trousers, a grey waistcoat, blue shirt with a red and white tie and brown shoes.”<\/p>\n
