{"id":444652,"date":"2025-09-23T02:11:11","date_gmt":"2025-09-23T02:11:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/444652\/"},"modified":"2025-09-23T02:11:11","modified_gmt":"2025-09-23T02:11:11","slug":"alexander-zverev-now-has-even-more-questions-to-answer-following-his-poor-showing-at-the-laver-cup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/444652\/","title":{"rendered":"Alexander Zverev now has even more questions to answer following his poor showing at the Laver Cup"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Alexander Zverev is one player who will be truly glad to see the back of 2025. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The world number three has endured a torrid time of things pretty much since he made the final of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/australian-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Australian Open<\/a> before losing comprehensively to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/jannik-sinner\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jannik Sinner<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/alexander-zverev-provides-update-on-his-back-injury-after-losing-both-of-his-matches-at-the-laver-cup\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Zverev provided an update on his back injury<\/a> after this weekend\u2019s Laver Cup, which threw up another string of questions about the German\u2019s current form following some torrid displays. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/carlos-alcaraz-praised-for-what-he-did-to-alexander-zverev-straight-after-team-europe-lost-the-laver-cup\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Carlos Alcaraz tried to fire Zverev up<\/a> in the deciding rubber against Taylor Fritz, but ultimately, he came up short once again as Team World claimed a big victory. <\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a worrying time for Zverev and right now, there appears to be little light emerging from the end of a very dark tunnel. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/GettyImages-2236660843-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Alexander Zverev of Team Europe speaks during day three of Laver Cup 2025 at Chase Center.\" class=\"wp-image-131590\" \/>Photo by Ezra Shaw\/Getty Images for Laver CupAlexander Zverev now has more questions to answer after Laver Cup showing<\/p>\n<p>The surface in San Francisco hardly helped Zverev when it came to his serve, with that side of his game usually his get-out-of-jail card. <\/p>\n<p>However, the signs of Zverev improving his form at the moment are non-existent, and it would appear the player is going through a real struggle right now. <\/p>\n<p>Zverev had the worst record of any player at the Laver Cup, playing twice and losing twice, both in singles matches to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/alex-de-minaur\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alex de Minaur<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/taylor-fritz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Taylor Fritz<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>He was responsible for five dropped points for Team Europe, and playing in big matches appears to be a real mental challenge for Zverev at the moment. <\/p>\n<p>Although Zverev got to the final in Melbourne back in January and reached the quarterfinal at the French Open, he was sent packing in rounds one and three at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/wimbledon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wimbledon<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/us-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">US Open<\/a>, respectively. <\/p>\n<p>For a player with so much quality that simply won\u2019t do\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Zverev\u2019s serve is way off the pace<\/p>\n<p>Last year, Zverev was the leading server on the ATP Tour with a serve rating on the tour\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atptour.com\/en\/stats\/leaderboard?boardType=serve&amp;timeFrame=52week&amp;surface=all&amp;versusRank=all&amp;formerNo1=false\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">official website<\/a> of 299.9. <\/p>\n<p>This year, the German is below Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, Sinner and Fritz in fourth place with a rating of 295.2. <\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, the pace of Zverev\u2019s serve is really crippling him right now, with his serve at the Laver Cup down a staggering 14 MPH based on the rest of the year. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Zverev\u2019s serve is down 14 MPH from his season average so far.<\/p>\n<p>If he\u2019s compromised, why is he playing? It\u2019s a team event.
