Following his victory in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Oscar Piastri has taken the lead of the F1 drivers’ title but is he McLaren’s best hope of claiming the crown?<\/p>\n
The Australian driver has a 10-point lead over team-mate Lando Norris after winning three of the opening five races.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Only Piastri has won more than one grand prix this season, with Norris standing on the top step in Australia and Max Verstappen in Japan.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Piastri has been near-faultless across the opening rounds, with the sole exception being his heartbreaking mistake on home soil of Melbourne’s Albert Park which cost him a comfortable podium finish.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Whilst he has not been the quickest driver regularly, he has been the most consistent, as proven by Norris’ mixed results due to costly mistakes in several events.\u00a0<\/p>\n
McLaren has not won the drivers’ championship since Lewis Hamilton’s maiden title in 2008, marking a 17-year wait for the Woking-based team.\u00a0<\/p>\n
