It was ahead of forecasts for \u00a3327 million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">Knigfisher sales rose 1.9 per cent to \u00a36.81 billion, with the retailer now targeting the \u201cupper end\u201d range for adjusted profit-before-tax of between \u00a3480 million and \u00a3540 million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">Kingfisher reported a strong UK performance across both B&amp;Q and Screwfix with like-for-like sales up 4.4 per cent and 3 per cent. It experienced another increase in demand for big-ticket items as it benefited from \u201cfavourable weather\u201d and the closure of rival Homebase stores.<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">Thierry Garnier, chief executive, said expectations for the year remain unchanged \u201cwhilst mindful of mixed consumer sentiment and political uncertainty\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Profits drop 43% at Raspberry Pi<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">Raspberry Pi, the micro-computer maker, suffered a 43 per cent drop in profit before tax in the first half, to \u00a36.2 million from \u00a310.8 million last time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">Revenue was down 6 per cent to \u00a3135.5 million against a strong comparison period. Its chief executive, Eben Upton, said Raspberry Pi remained on track for the year, with profit expectations unchanged.<\/p>\n<p>Smiths Group break-up \u2018progressing with pace\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">The FTSE 100 industrial conglomerate Smiths Group says its break-up is \u201cprogressing with pace\u201d, alongside full-year results.<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">Roland Carter announced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/business-money\/companies\/article\/smiths-group-to-break-itself-up-5rq5wxm5g\" class=\"link__RespLink-sc-1ocvixa-0 csWvlP\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">plans to break up the group in January<\/a>, with the sale or demerger of Smiths Detection and Smiths Interconnect, to allow the \u00a37 billion group to concentrate on the more profitable, higher operating margins of John Crane, which operates in the oil and gas sector, and Flex-Tek, an industrial heat controls business.<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">\u201cWe remain on track to announce a sale of Smiths Interconnect by the end of calendar year 2025, with the separation of Smiths Detection by way of a UK demerger or sale to follow,\u201d the company said this morning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">A break-up has long been sought by some investors and shares in Smiths Group have risen 36 per cent since the start of the year on the back of the plans.<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">The results show that operating profit rose 11 per cent to \u00a3410 million in the 12 months to the end of July, up from \u00a3369 million. Revenue rose 6.5 per cent to \u00a33.34 billion, up from \u00a33.13 billion<\/p>\n<p>OpenAI\u2019s $100bn mega-deal with Nvidia drives tech rally<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">Nvidia\u2019s plan to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/business-money\/technology\/article\/nvidia-to-invest-up-to-100bn-in-openai-to-build-data-centres-wn3vkd6fn\" class=\"link__RespLink-sc-1ocvixa-0 csWvlP\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">invest up to $100 billion<\/a> in OpenAI sent a jolt through Asian markets overnight and the South Korea and Taiwan markets both posted all-time highs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">It came after Wall Street\u2019s three main stock market indices also scaled new records. The bulk of the gains were driven by megacap technology stocks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">Analysts\u2019 opinion, however, seems divided.
