{"id":447104,"date":"2025-09-24T00:27:30","date_gmt":"2025-09-24T00:27:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/447104\/"},"modified":"2025-09-24T00:27:30","modified_gmt":"2025-09-24T00:27:30","slug":"the-7m-project-to-link-two-very-different-towns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/447104\/","title":{"rendered":"The \u00a37m project to link two very different towns"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A \u00a37m grant could make it easier and safer to get between two different parts of Oldham<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/0_GVs-of-Royton-Town-Centre.jpg\" alt=\"A \u00a37m grant could make it easier and safer to get between two different parts of Oldham\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>A \u00a37m grant could make it easier and safer to get between two different parts of Oldham(Image: Manchester Evening News)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">Oldham Council has accepted a \u00a37m grant to improve local transport links for pedestrians and those using public transport \u2013 including creating a stronger link between <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/oldham\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Oldham<\/a> and Royton.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">The cash \u2013 a portion of a \u00a3190m pot from GMCA\u2019s City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement \u2013 will fund two infrastructure projects in Oldham.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">A \u00a34.5m scheme will create a new off-road path from the town centre to Oldham Edge. The new route would mean people on foot or bicycle could travel from Oldham to Royton without having to share busy highways with motor vehicles.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">And \u00a32.8m will be used to deliver a series of smaller connected projects aimed at improving accessibility within and around Oldham town centre for all modes of transport, including pedestrians, cyclists, and public transport users.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/0_Chris-Goodwin-at-the-Oldham-Council-Cabinet-Meeting-22-Sept-25.jpg\" alt=\"Councillor Chris Goodwin, Cabinet Member for Transport and Highways, at the Cabinet meeting on Monday. \" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Councillor Chris Goodwin, Cabinet Member for Transport and Highways, at the Cabinet meeting on Monday. Councillors declared they were \u2018delighted\u2019 by the grant.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">Councillor Chris Goodwin, Cabinet Member for Transport and Highways, said: \u201cThis is a good news story. Because we\u2019ve been awarded \u00a37.3m towards two projects, which is the Oldham Edge and Higginshaw Active Travel Link and Oldham Town Centre Sustainable Connectivity Links.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">\u201cIt complements the other schemes we already have.
