German Ambassador to India, Dr Philipp Ackermann, extended an open invitation to skilled Indian workers, pitching Europe’s largest economy as a stable and rewarding alternative to the US.

“Here is my call to all highly skilled Indians,” Ackermann posted on X. “Germany stands out with its stable migration policies, and with great job opportunities for Indians in IT, management, science and tech.”

In an accompanying video message, the envoy pointed out how Indians are among the top earners in Germany.

“The average Indian working in Germany earns more than the average German,” he said, stressing that this is a good thing.

“Because a high salary means Indians are contributing big time to our society and our welfare. We believe in hard work and giving the best jobs to the best people,” Ackermann explained.

Here is my call to all highly skilled Indians.

Germany stands out with its stable migration policies, and with great job opportunities for Indians in IT, management, science and tech.

Find your way to Germany to boost your career: https://t.co/u5CmmrHtoF pic.twitter.com/HYiwX2iwME— Dr Philipp Ackermann (@AmbAckermann) September 23, 2025

The sentiment is diametrically opposite to the US’s latest clampdown on foreign workers. The Trump administration last week hiked H-1B visa fees to $100,000 per application, up from the previous range of $215 to $5,000.

The overhaul was like a bolt from the blue for Indian techies and outsourcing firms that rely heavily on the programme. US officials said the new rules were aimed at curbing “misuse” and prioritising American workers, but critics called the move disruptive and discriminatory.

By contrast, Ackermann highlighted Germany’s approach to immigration, which doesn’t involve changing rules fundamentally overnight.

Drawing a comparison with his country’s most famous export, he said, “Our migration policy works a bit like a German car. It’s reliable, it is modern, and it is predictable. It will go in a straight line with no zig-zags.”

Ackermann’s pitch comes against the backdrop of a looming demographic crunch in Germany. Experts estimate the German economy will need nearly 288,000 immigrants annually until 2040 to offset the effects of an ageing population.

To meet demand, Berlin has announced plans to issue over 10 per cent more professional visas in 2024 and expand allocations substantially for Indian workers.

Last year, the German government pledged to issue 200,000 professional visas in 2025, with 90,000 earmarked for Indians — a dramatic increase from the previous cap of 20,000. Around 130,000 Indian professionals already live and work in Germany, with earnings far above the local median.

At the end of 2023, the median salary among full-time German employees stood at 3,945 euros per month. Indian-origin professionals earned an average of 5,359 euros, according to government data.

– Ends

Published By:

Devika Bhattacharya

Published On:

Sep 24, 2025

As the United States tightens its H-1B visa programme, Germany is seizing the moment to court Indian talent.…

[5310
2000,299,150767,1824,150763,150764,150766,150630,150768,150765
0":"post-447438","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-germany","8":"tag-eu","9":"tag-europe","10":"tag-german-job-market","11":"tag-germany","12":"tag-germany-immigration","13":"tag-h-1b-visa-fee-hike","14":"tag-indian-h-1b-workers","15":"tag-indian-professionals-in-germany","16":"tag-professional-visas-germany","17":"tag-us-h-1b-overhaul
["GET
