The performance represents further growth in the company\u2019s bottom line, with profits up from \u00a32.6 million in 2022.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The company is a subsidiary of the unlimited Dunnes Holding Company, the parent entity for the Dunnes Stores group, which is not obliged to file accounts. The figures for the Northern Ireland entity offer the only window into Dunnes Stores\u2019 financial performance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The profit on ordinary activities before tax amounted to \u00a320.3 million, which was up from \u00a312.7 million. The company paid tax of \u00a36.2 million, which was more than double the \u00a32.9 million it paid in 2023.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The accounts were signed off by Anne Heffernan, a granddaughter of Dunnes founder Ben Dunne and daughter of Margaret Heffernan, who is the principal shareholder in the family-owned retail group.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Turnover came to \u00a3191 million, up from \u00a3185 million, while the cost of sales was also up marginally, reaching \u00a3145.1 million from \u00a3142 million in 2023. Meanwhile, it had net assets worth \u00a377 million, up from \u00a362.7 million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">On the environmental side, the company reported an increase in its carbon dioxide emissions from energy use in its buildings and employees\u2019 business travel. It said it generated 3,333 tonnes, which was up from 2,788 tonnes the totalled \u00a320.4 million, up from \u00a319.2 million the previous yearbefore.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" class=\"c-image audio_image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/1754647931518-c07d65db-55b5-463e-ae51-976300c5837e.jpeg\"\/>Why has the DAA board fallen out with chief executive Kenny Jacobs?<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">In a note attached to the accounts, director Anne Hefernan said: \u201cWe know that we all share a common environment, and we are continually looking for ways to work more sustainably.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The average number of people employed rose by 77 during the period as its headcount reached 1,268. Staff costs totalled \u00a320.4 million, up from \u00a319.2 million the previous year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Directors were not remunerated by the Northern Irish entity, with the accounts noting these costs are borne by another group company. Tesco was second with 23.7 per cent of the market, followed by SuperValu at 19.5 per cent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/supervalu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/supervalu\/\">SuperValu<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/business\/2025\/06\/30\/supervalu-expands-into-pet-cover-in-bid-to-be-one-stop-shop-for-insurance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/business\/2025\/06\/30\/supervalu-expands-into-pet-cover-in-bid-to-be-one-stop-shop-for-insurance\/\">Centra <\/a>owner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/business\/2025\/06\/30\/supervalu-expands-into-pet-cover-in-bid-to-be-one-stop-shop-for-insurance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/business\/2025\/06\/30\/supervalu-expands-into-pet-cover-in-bid-to-be-one-stop-shop-for-insurance\/\">Musgrave <\/a>saw growth of 6.5 per cent to \u20ac5 billion this year to retain top spot among Ireland\u2019s grocers in the Top 1000 Companies magazine published by The Irish Times.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Turnover at Dunnes Stores was estimated at \u20ac4.4 billion, which was up from \u20ac4.2 billion, which put it in second place.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Meanwhile, data from retail analysts Kantar Worldpanel showed the rate at which grocery prices are climbing has more than doubled over the last 12 months. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Recent data from the Central Statistics Office showed Irish grocery prices were 14 per cent higher than the European Union average in 2024.
